Elizabeth Julia Hasell (14/17 January 1830 – 17 January 1887) was a British miscellaneous writer and literary reviewer. Early life and education Elizabeth Julia Hasell was born at Dalemain country house, near Penrith, Cumbria, England, on 14 January 1830. She was the second daughter of Dorothea and Edward Williams Hasell who lived at Dalemain, and were the lord and lady of the Dacre and Soulby manors. She was carefully educated at home. At the same time she taught herself, with little or no assistance, Latin, Greek, Spanish, and Portuguese. At an early age, she was writing plays and later narrative poems for her own amusement. Career About 1858, she began to contribute to ''Blackwood's Magazine'' and also to the ''Quarterly Review'' with reviews of notable publications such as Lord Derby's translation of ''The Iliad'', Tennyson's ''Idylls of the King'' (1859), ''Enoch Arden'' in 1864, and Becket in 1885, and William Morris's ''Poems'' (1869). Eva Hasell
Frances Hatton Eva Hasell MBE (13 December 1886 – 3 May 1974) was a British traveller and missionary in Canada running the "Canadian Caravan Mission". Life Hasell was born in Dalemain house, Dacre, Penrith in 1886. Her parents were Frances Maud (born Flood) and John Edward Hasell JP DL. Her father owned land and the family's wealth enable her to volunteer for church work. She was a strong supporter of the church and the British Empire. In 1914 she met Aylmer Bosanquet who inspired her. They met at St Christopher's College in Blackheath where she had been sent for religious training and Bosanquet told her of the people of western Canada. Bosanquet was a missionary there and she imagined that the children there could be given Sunday School lessons by women travelling by horse when the weather allowed it. For the rest of the year the children could receive teaching by correspondence. Bosanquey would send her letters from Canada keeping her aware of life in Canada. At the age of 3 ...

James Hasell
James Hasell was a British colonial official who served as the acting governor of North Carolina in 1771. Early life In 1763 when Governor Arthur Dobbs was absent from the colony on a visit to South Carolina, Hassel, as senior member of the Council, was in charge on the government. Hasell also had other experience in colonial affairs as judge of the Court of Oyer and Terminer (a court to hear and determine cases) for Craven, Carteret, Johnston, Beaufort, and Hyde counties. He lived at Belgrange on the lower Cape Fear. In 1766 Governor Tryon wrote the British Board of Trade that he had given the commission of chief justice to James Hasell and described him as "senior member of his Majesty's Council, next to the President. Samuel Hasell
Samuel Hasell (1691 – June 13, 1751) was Mayor of Philadelphia from 1731 to 1733 and 1740–41. Hasell was born in Barbados in 1691. He arrived in Philadelphia in 1715. Among other public positions he held, he was elected a Common Councilman in 1728, Alderman in 1729, and Mayor in 1731, 1732, and 1740. He also served as Treasurer. He died in Philadelphia on June 13, 1751, and buried at Christ Church Burial Ground Christ Church Burial Ground in Philadelphia is an important early-American cemetery.
