Hasegawa Eishin-ryū
is a iaijutsu koryū founded by Hasegawa Chikaranosuke Eishin (or Hidenobu)(長谷川主税助英信) as a continuation of the teachings he received in Shinmei Musō-ryū. After the death of the eleventh headmaster, Ōguro Motoemon Kiyokatsu, the school split into two branches or ''ha''. One branch, the ''Shimomura-ha'' (下村派), was renamed by its fourteenth headmaster Hosokawa Yoshimasa to Musō Shinden Eishin-ryū (無雙神傳英信流). After studying under Hosokawa, Nakayama Hakudō created his own school which he called Musō Shinden-ryū (夢想神伝流) in 1932. Japanese martial arts refers to the variety of martial arts native to the country of Japan. At least three Japanese terms (''budō'', ''bujutsu'', and ''bugei'') are used interchangeably with the English phrase Japanese martial arts. Muromachi Period
The is a division of Japanese history running from approximately 1336 to 1573. The period marks the governance of the Muromachi or Ashikaga shogunate (''Muromachi bakufu'' or ''Ashikaga bakufu''), which was officially established in 1338 by the first Muromachi ''shōgun'', Ashikaga Takauji, two years after the brief Kenmu Restoration (1333–1336) of imperial rule was brought to a close. The period ended in 1573 when the 15th and last shogun of this line, Ashikaga Yoshiaki, was driven out of the capital in Kyoto by Oda Nobunaga. From a cultural perspective, the period can be divided into the Kitayama and Higashiyama cultures (later 15th – early 16th centuries). is a combative quick-draw sword technique. Kenjutsu
is an umbrella term for all ('' ko-budō'') schools of Japanese swordsmanship, in particular those that predate the Meiji Restoration. Some modern styles of kendo and iaido that were established in the 20th century also included modern forms of kenjutsu in their curriculum. Musō Jikiden Eishin-ryū
is a Japanese sword art school and one of the most widely practiced schools of iai in the world. Often referred to simply as "Eishin-ryū," it claims an unbroken lineage dating back from the sixteenth century to the early 20th century. 17th undisputed headmaster, Oe Masaji, awarded at least 16 licenses of full transmission, Yamakoshi 2004 resulting in the school fracturing into multiple legitimate branches. Musō Shinden-ryū
is a style of sword-drawing art (''iaido'') founded by Nakayama Hakudō (中山博道) in 1932. Nakayama Hakudō studied under Hosokawa Yoshimasa, a master of the ''Shimomura'' branch (下村派) of Hasegawa Eishin-ryū, and Morimoto Tokumi, a fellow student of Ōe Masaji of the ''Tanimura'' branch (谷村派). The name Musō Shinden-ryū most likely comes from the name given to the ''Shimomura'' branch by Hosokawa, Musō Shinden Eishin-ryū (無雙神傳英信流).
