Hasan Iğsız
Hasan Iğsız (born 1946, Istanbul, Turkey) is a retired General in the Turkish Army. He was Commander of the First Army of Turkey from 2009 to 2010. He was formerly a defendant in the Internet Memorandum trial, where he was tried together with Turkey's former Chief of Staff, İlker Başbuğ. Later this trial was merged into the controversial Ergenekon trials. Iğsız was subsequently acquitted in 2016. The Ergenekon trials targeted a very heterogeneous group of people, merged different trials into one, and mobilized conspiracies tainted with fabricated evidence in the struggle to dominate Turkey's institutions. Turkish Army
The Turkish Land Forces ( tr, Türk Kara Kuvvetleri), or Turkish Army (Turkish: ), is the main branch of the Turkish Armed Forces responsible for land-based military operations. The army was formed on November 8, 1920, after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Significant campaigns since the foundation of the army include suppression of rebellions in southeastern Turkey from the 1920s to the present day, combat in the Korean War, the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the current Turkish involvement in the Syrian Civil War, as well as its NATO alliance against the USSR during the Cold War. The army holds the preeminent place within the armed forces. Ergenekon Trials
The Ergenekon trials were a series of high-profile trials which took place on 2008–2016 in Turkey in which 275 people, including military officers, journalists and opposition lawmakers, all alleged members of Ergenekon, a suspected secularist clandestine organization, were accused of plotting against the Turkish government. The trials resulted in lengthy prison sentences for the majority of the accused. Those sentences were overturned shortly after. Since Istanbul Heavy Penal Court 13 (tr: ''13. Turkish Military Academy
The Turkish Military Academy ( tr, Kara Harp Okulu) is a four-year co-educational military academy and part of the National Defence University. It is located in the center of Ankara, Turkey. Its mission is to develop cadets mentally and physically for service as commissioned officers in the Turkish Army, and is the oldest of the academies of the Armed Forces (opened 1834). After 2016 Turkish coup d'état attempt Military academy (along with Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and all the other military educational institutions) became part of the new National Defence University which is formed under Ministry of National Defence. 2nd Army (Turkey)
The Second Army ( tr, 2. Ordu) of the Turkish Army has headquarters in Malatya. It protects Anatolia and it patrols the border with Syria, Iraq and Iran. Modern Turkish corps are referred to in TGS literature in Ottoman Turkish (1st) numerals. It is not clear when the change occurred.
