Hasan Fehmi Güneş
Hasan Fehmi Güneş (1934 – 23 November 2021) was a Turkish jurist and politician who served as the interior minister in 1979. He was a member of the Turkish parliament for two terms from the Republican People's Party. Between 1975 and 1980 he served in the Turkish Senate. Biography Güneş was born in Adapazarı in 1934. He graduated from Ankara University receiving a bachelor's degree in law. After working as a lawyer and public prosecutor, he entered politics and became senator in the period 1975–1980. He was a member of the Turkish parliament for two terms, in the 18th and 22nd terms, from the Social Democratic Populist Party and then from the Republican People's Party. On 13 January 1979 he was appointed interior minister to the cabinet led by Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit. The Ministry of Interior or Ministry of the Interior or Interior Ministry ( tr, İçişleri Bakanlığı lit. Ministry of Internal Affairs) is a government ministry of the Republic of Turkey, responsible for interior security affairs in Turkey. The current Minister of the Interior is Süleyman Soylu, after the resignation of his predecessor Efkan Ala in August 2016. Functions The ministry is responsible for disaster and emergency management, immigration, inspection of local government, gendarmerie and coast guard (in peacetime), and police. The ministry helps to combat human trafficking, smuggling and bootleg alcohol. Alleged interference in politics Although forming a new political party is a constitutional right, the Interior Ministry allegedly blocked the Green Party from standing in the general election due by June 2023. 1987 Turkish General Election
General elections were held in Turkey on 29 November 1987. Prior to the elections, the military junta's restrictions on former politicians were lifted, allowing them to re-enter politics. Despite a reduction in its share of the vote, the Motherland Party retained its majority in parliament, gaining 81 seats. Voter turnout was 93.3%. The elections saw the return of the religious oriented base of Necmettin Erbakan and the symbol names of the politics in the 1970s, Bülent Ecevit and Süleyman Demirel. Bülent Ecevit led the Democratic Left Party as the Republican People's Party was closed down after the coup of 1980. Süleyman Demirel founded the True Path Party to challenge the power of Turgut Özal on conservative liberal votes.
