Anna Cope Hartshorne
Anna Cope Hartshorne (January 8, 1860 – October 2, 1957) was an American educator and writer based in Japan. A member of a prominent Philadelphia Quaker family, she was a founder and faculty member of Tsuda University, with her close friend Tsuda Umeko. Early life and education Anna Cope Hartshorne was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Henry Hartshorne and Mary Elizabeth Brown Hartshorne. Philosopher Charles Hartshorne and geographer Richard Hartshorne were her cousins. Her father, a Quaker physician, was an advocate for public health and women's higher education, and a medical missionary in Japan. She attended Bryn Mawr College, where she and Tsuda Umeko became friends. Career Hartshorne taught English literature at the Friends' School in Tokyo in the 1890s. She helped raise funds to open the Joshi Eigaku Juku (Women's Institute of English Studies) in 1900, which was forerunner of Tsuda University. Arthur Hartshorne
Albert "Arthur" Hartshorne (December 1880 – 10 February 1915) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Burslem Port Vale and Stoke, and in the Southern League for Northampton Town and Southampton. Career Hartshorne played for Moxley White Star and Wolverhampton Wanderers, before joining Port Vale in June 1902. He was a regular throughout the 1902–03 season, scoring three goals in 28 Second Division appearances. He was sold to local rivals Stoke in April 1903 to ease Vale's financial troubles. At the Victoria Ground, Hartshorne played as a regular in the 1903–04 and 1904–05 campaigns, and was fast becoming a popular player with the supporters due to his 'hard yet controlled' tackling skill. Charles Hartshorne
Charles Hartshorne (; June 5, 1897 – October 9, 2000) was an American philosopher who concentrated primarily on the philosophy of religion and metaphysics, but also contributed to ornithology. He developed the neoclassical idea of God and produced a modal proof of the existence of God that was a development of Anselm of Canterbury's ontological argument. Hartshorne is also noted for developing Alfred North Whitehead's process philosophy into process theology. Charles Henry Hartshorne (17 March 1802 – 11 March 1865) was an English cleric and antiquary. Life Born at Broseley in Shropshire on 17 March 1802, he was the only child of John Hartshorne, an ironmaster,. He was educated at Shrewsbury School, and in 1821 entered St John's College, Cambridge, as a " pensioner", that is to say self-funded. He graduated B.A. in 1825, and M.A. in 1828. In 1825 Hartshorne was invited by his friend Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, who had been appointed "archon" over the University of Corfu he had founded, to accompany him to the island, which was then ruled by the British. He served as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing Chester County in 1840. Career Hartshorne was a Putnam Fellow in Fall 1958 while he was an undergraduate at Harvard University (under the name Robert C. Hartshorne).
