Hartford Hawks Men's Basketball
The Hartford Hawks men's basketball team is the basketball team that represents University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut. The school's team currently competes as an Independent. In 2008, Hartford made the America East tournament championship game falling to UMBC 65–82. In 2021, they defeated UMass Lowell, 64–50, to make their first NCAA Division I Tournament. On May 6, 2021, the University of Hartford Board of Regents voted to drop its athletic department to Division III. The drop is set to take place no later than September 1, 2025. The most notable basketball player to play for Hartford is Vin Baker, who played parts of 14 seasons in the NBA, was named to four All-Star Games, and won a gold medal for the United States men's basketball team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. NCAA Division I Independent Schools

Jack Phelan (basketball, Born 1954)
John Phelan (June 14, 1954 – July 20, 2020) was an American college basketball coach. He served as the University of Hartford's men's head coach from 1981 to 1992 and compiled an overall record of 128–181. Phelan oversaw the transition of the program from an NCAA Division II program into Division I. His previous coaching stops included Niagara University, Saint Francis University, and Fairfield University. As a player, Phelan suited up for the Saint Francis Red Flash after a high school career at Northwest Catholic High School in West Hartford, Connecticut. He scored a Stokes Fieldhouse record 42 points in his senior season against Duquesne. 2012–13 Hartford Hawks Men's Basketball Team
The 2012–13 Hartford Hawks men's basketball team represented the University of Hartford during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Hawks, led by third year head coach John Gallagher, played their home games at the Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion and were members of the America East Conference. They finished the season 17–14, 10–6 in America East play to finish in fourth place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the America East tournament to UMBC. They were invited to the 2013 CIT, their first ever Division I postseason appearance, where they lost in the first round to Rider. 2010–11 Hartford Hawks Men's Basketball Team
The 2010–11 Hartford Hawks men's basketball team represented the University of Hartford during the 2010–11 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. John Gallagher who served as an assistant coach at Hartford from 2006-2008 returned to take over the head coaching position after Dan Leibovitz left at the end of the previous season to take an assistant coaching position at Penn. The 2007–08 Hartford Hawks men's basketball team represented the University of Hartford during the 2007–08 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was coached by second year coach Dan Leibovitz. The 2007–08 season was Hartford's most successful season in the division I era, finishing second in the regular season and reaching the conference championship finals. America East Conference
The America East Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I founded in 1979, whose members are located in the Northeastern United States. The conference has nine core members including eight public research universities, three of which, the University of Maine, the University of New Hampshire, and the University of Vermont, are the flagship universities of their states. The two non-flagship university centers of the State University of New York are in the conference: the University at Albany and Binghamton University. Bryant University is the only private university among the core membership. Of the nine members, eight are located within the borders of 7 contiguous states. John Gallagher (basketball)
John Gallagher (born May 27, 1977) is the head men's basketball coach at Manhattan College. He previously served as the head coach at the University of Hartford from 2010 until 2022. Career Assistant coach Gallagher started his coaching career working as an assistant at Lafayette College and La Salle University. From 2006 to 2008 Gallagher worked as associate head coach under Dan Leibovitz, helping the Hawks to their first appearance in the America East Championship game in 2008. Hartford lost the game to UMBC 64–50. Gallagher left Hartford in 2008, and spent two years as an assistant coach under Glen Miller with the Penn Quakers. He then briefly worked as an assistant under Steve Donahue at Boston College, a position he held for less than two weeks before being offered the head coaching job at Hartford.
