Harry Palmerston Williams
Harry Palmerston Williams (October 6, 1889 – May 19, 1936) was a Louisiana businessman and co-owner of the Wedell-Williams Air Service Corporation that dominated air racing in the United States during the so-called Golden Age of Aviation. Early years Williams was born on October 6, 1889, in Patterson, Louisiana to Francis Bennett Williams and Emily Williamson Seyburn. His father was a prominent Louisiana industrialist and civic leader. Williams was educated at Lawrenceville Academy, Lawrenceville, New Jersey and at the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee. In 1906, like his brothers, he entered his father's lumber business, initially operating a dredge in south Louisiana swamps for $50 a month. In World War I, he served as a lieutenant in the Engineers Corps. After the war, Williams became active in politics, becoming the Mayor of Patterson, as well as serving as the president of police jury in St. Mary Parish and state highway commissioner. Enrique (Harry) Ruíz-Williams was a Cuban-born exile living in the United States who was second in command of the heavy weapons battalion of Brigade 2506 during the Bay of Pigs Invasion. During the invasion, Williams unsuccessfully attempted a point-blank range assassination of Fidel Castro. Williams infamously set a quota during the invasion that each man of his unit should kill at least fifteen enemy combatants. After the failed invasion, Williams became a close friend of Robert (Bobby) F. "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" (or "It's a Long, Long Way to Tipperary") is an English music hall song first performed in 1912 by Jack Judge, and written by Judge and Harry Williams, though authorship of the song has long been disputed. It was recorded in 1914 by Irish tenor John McCormack. It became popular as a marching song among soldiers in the First World War and is remembered as a song of that war. Welcoming signs, in the referenced county of Tipperary, Ireland, humorously declare, "You've come a long way" in reference to the song. Harry Abbott Williams (10 May 1919 – 30 January 2006) was a British Church of England priest, monk, theologian and academic. After serving two curacies, he was chaplain of Westcott House, Cambridge. He then moved to Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was a fellow and lecturer and was later Dean of Trinity College Chapel. In 1972, he left academia and entered religious life as a monk with the Community of the Resurrection. Early life Williams was born on 10 May 1919 in Rochester, Kent, England. Harry Llewellyn Carlington Williams (12 July 1915 – 22 December 1961) was an Australian amateur golfer. He won the Australian Amateur in 1931 and 1937. Early life Williams was born on 12 July 1915 in Elsternwick, Melbourne, the son of Eric Llewellyn Williams and his wife Emma Madge Dagmar, née Halfey. He started playing golf at Elsternwick Golf Club, later moving to Commonwealth Golf Club and to Victoria Golf Club in 1931.
