Harry Smith (footballer, Born 1904)
Harold Smith (10 March 1904 – after 1928) was an English footballer who played as an inside left in the Football League for West Ham United. Smith was born in North Shields in 1904. He played local football for Cullercoats before signing for Newcastle United for the 1925–26 season. He remained there for two seasons without playing first-team football, featuring only for the reserve team. When Jimmy Loughlin was sold to First Division club West Ham United in May 1927, Smith and another teammate, George Robson, also made the move. He played only once for the first team, standing in for Vivian Gibbins at inside left for the home match against Manchester United on 29 October; West Ham lost 2–1. North Shields () is a town in the Borough of North Tyneside in Tyne and Wear, England. It is north-east of Newcastle upon Tyne and borders nearby Wallsend and Tynemouth. Since 1974, it has been in the North Tyneside borough of Tyne and Wear: it's historic administration was as part of the Castle ward in county of Northumberland. It was part of the Tynemouth County Borough, when abolished in 1974 the borough became an unparished area. It is on the northern bank of the River Tyne, opposite to South Shields on the other bank. The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. Vivian Gibbins
William Vivian Talbot Gibbins (10 August 1901 – 21 November 1979) was an English amateur footballer who played as a striker. West Ham and Clapton Born in Forest Gate, Gibbins joined West Ham United in 1923 and made his debut as an amateur on 26 December 1923 against Aston Villa, creating the only goal of the game for Billy Moore. He decided not to play permanently for the club until the 1927–28 season. He became the first unpaid West Ham player to top the club's scoring charts in 1930–31, with 18 league goals. Gibbins also played for Clapton, and won the FA Amateur Cup with the club in 1924 and 1925. George Chippendale Robson (17 June 1905 – 1982) was an English professional footballer who played as an inside right, most notably for Brentford and Heart of Midlothian in the 1930s. He later became a scout at former club West Ham United. Playing career Newcastle United An inside right, Robson joined hometown First Division club Newcastle United in 1925, but failed to make an appearance for the first team before departing in 1928. West Ham United Robson signed for First Division club West Ham United in 1928. He made his debut for the Hammers on the final day of the 1927–28 season in a 3–1 defeat to former club Newcastle United. Jimmy Loughlin
James Loughlin (9 October 1905 – after 1933) was an English footballer who scored 46 goals from 93 appearances in the Football League playing for Newcastle United, West Ham United, Coventry City and Darlington. Primarily a centre forward, he also played in Ireland for Dolphin and Bray Unknowns and in English non-league football for Darlington Railway Athletic, Worcester City and Northwich Victoria. Early career Loughlin was born in Darlington, County Durham, where he worked on the railway and played football for Darlington Railway Athletic. After a trial with Newcastle United, in which he scored for the club's North-Eastern League team, he signed as a professional in November 1924.
