Harry McKay (politician)
Henry Cartmell "Harry" McKay (March 29, 1925 – 1987) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Fernie in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1960 to 1966 as a Liberal. He was born in Michel, British Columbia, the son of Walter McKay and Ann Cartmell, and was educated there. In 1947, he married Jean Cameron Hooker. McKay ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1953. He was defeated when he ran for reelection in the newly created riding of Kootenay East in 1966. After leaving politics, McKay was named a county court judge for Nanaimo. In 1971, he was named to the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Fernie (electoral District)
Fernie was the name of a provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of British Columbia centred on the town of Fernie in the southern Rockies. It made its first appearance on the hustings in the election of 1903. In a redistribution after the 1963 election the area covered by this riding was incorporated into the new Kootenay riding (same name but smaller than the original 1871-vintage Kootenay riding). The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia is the deliberative assembly of the Parliament of British Columbia, in the province of British Columbia, Canada. British Columbia Liberal Party
The British Columbia Liberal Party, often shortened to the BC Liberals, is a Centre-right politics, centre-right provincial political party in British Columbia, Canada. The party currently forms the Official Opposition. Subsequent to the 2020 British Columbia general election, then–party leader Andrew Wilkinson announced his resignation on October 26, 2020, but remained as interim leader until Shirley Bond was chosen as the new interim leader on November 23; the party held 2022 British Columbia Liberal Party leadership election, a leadership election in 2022, which was won by Kevin Falcon. Until the 1940s, British Columbia politics were dominated by the Liberal Party and rival British Columbia Conservative Party.
