Harry Marmion
Harry A. Marmion (June 14, 1931 in Queens, New York – August 14, 2008 in Williamsburg, Virginia) served as president of two colleges, St. Xavier University and Southampton College of Long Island University, and as president of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) during the construction and opening of the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Early life Marmion grew up in Woodside, Queens and graduated from La Salle Academy in New York, New York. He then received his bachelor's degree from Fairfield University where he was a member of the Fairfield Stags men's basketball team, wrote a sports column for the school newspaper and served on the debate team. Following his graduation, Marmion served in the Marine Corps as an infantry officer stationed in Japan for 2 years during the Korean War and then continued his service in the Marine Corps Reserve for 26 years, retiring as a colonel. Southampton College Of Long Island University
Stony Brook Southampton is a campus location of Stony Brook University, located in Southampton, New York between the Shinnecock Indian Reservation and Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on the eastern end of Long Island. History Southampton College, Long Island University Southampton College was founded in 1963 by Long Island University. It had its own station on the Long Island Rail Road until 1998 when the station was dismantled because it was lightly used. From 1993, Robert F.X. Sillerman served as the Chancellor, replacing Angier Biddle Duke, ambassador to Spain under Lyndon Johnson. Arthur Ashe
Arthur Robert Ashe Jr. (July 10, 1943 – February 6, 1993) was an American professional tennis player who won three Grand Slam singles titles. He started to play tennis at six years old. He was the first black player selected to the United States Davis Cup team, and the only black man ever to win the singles title at Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open. He retired in 1980. He was ranked world No. 1 by Rex Bellamy, Bud Collins, Judith Elian, Lance Tingay, ''World Tennis'' and ''Tennis Magazine'' (U.S.) in 1975. That year, Ashe was awarded the 'Martini and Rossi' Award, voted for by a panel of journalists, and the ATP Player of the Year award. In the ATP computer rankings, he peaked at No. 2 in May 1976. Saint Xavier University (or SXU) is a private Roman Catholic university in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1846 by the Sisters of Mercy, the university enrolls 3,749 students. History Saint Xavier University was founded as a women's college by the Sisters of Mercy in 1846 at the request of Bishop William Quarter.
