Harry M. Philpott
Harry Melvin Philpott (May 6, 1917 – January 28, 2008) was the President of Auburn University from 1965 to 1980. Biography Harry M. Philpott graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1938. He served as a chaplain in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1947, Philpott received a PhD from Yale University in religion and higher education. From 1947 to 1952, he taught at the University of Florida, and from 1952 to 1957 he served as Dean of religious life at Stephens College Stephens College is a private women's college in Columbia, Missouri. Auburn University
Auburn University (AU or Auburn) is a public land-grant research university in Auburn, Alabama. Stephens College
Stephens College is a private women's college in Columbia, Missouri. It is the second-oldest women's educational establishment that is still a women's college in the United States. It was founded on August 24, 1833, as the Columbia Female Academy. In 1856, David H. Hickman helped secure the college's charter under the name The Columbia Female Baptist Academy In the late 19th century it was renamed Stephens College after James L. Stephens endowed the college with $20,000. From 1937 to 1943, its Drama Department became renowned under its chairman and teacher, the actress Maude Adams, James M. Barrie's first American Peter Pan.
