Harry M.E. Evans
Henry Marshall Erskine Evans (August 17, 1876 – September 20, 1973) was a politician in Alberta, Canada, and a mayor of Edmonton. Biography Harry Evans was born on August 17, 1876, in Davenport, Ontario, now part of Toronto, the son of Rev. J. S. Evans and Mary Jane Evans (née Vaux). He was educated in Hamilton before earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto in 1897. After graduating, he attended the Michigan School of Mines in Houghton, Michigan. He mined in Mexico for fifteen months before moving to Winnipeg where he was Business Manager for the Winnipeg Telegram (which had been founded by his brother William Sanford Evans, who went on to become mayor of Winnipeg and leader of the Conservative Party of Manitoba) from 1900 until 1904. The Pembina River is a tributary of the Athabasca River in central Alberta, Canada. "Pembina" is a Canadian French name for the high bush cranberry ''(Viburnum trilobum)''. Gurney Evans
Edward Gurney Vaux Evans (September 3, 1907 – January 8, 1987) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1953 to 1969, and served as a cabinet minister in the governments of Dufferin Roblin and Walter Weir. His uncle, Harry Evans, was an Edmonton mayor. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the son of William Sanford Evans, a Winnipeg mayor and Conservative MLA and party leader, and Irene Gurney, Evans was educated at Ridley College and the University of Manitoba, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. He became a publisher at his father's firm of Sanford Evans & Co. Ltd., and was assistant director of Ordnance Services in the Canadian Army from 1942 to 1946, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel. Evansburg is a hamlet in west-central Alberta, Canada, within Yellowhead County. It is located on Highway 16A, approximately west of Edmonton and east of Edson. The Manitoba Club is private club in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Established as a gentleman's club in 1874, the Manitoba Club is the oldest private club in Western Canada. History On 16 July 1874, ten men met at the St. James Restaurant in Winnipeg to organize a club where city leaders could meet and relax. The Manitoba Club was incorporated one month later, becoming the first private club in Western Canada. The first clubhouse was founded in a rented building. This building burned down in February 1875 when Winnipeg’s first steam fire engine, on its inaugural run, failed to get there in time. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service.
