Harry Hays
Harry William Hays, (December 25, 1909 – May 4, 1982) was a Canadian politician, 27th Mayor of Calgary, Cabinet minister in the government of Lester Pearson, and Senator from Alberta. Personal life Born in Carstairs, Alberta, Hays had several careers related to agriculture. He was an auctioneer, rancher and breeder as well as a radio broadcaster. He was a founding member and president of the Alberta Poultry Breeders' Association and also served as president of the Alberta Holstein Breeders' Association. He led the Canadian Swine Breeders during World War II when it initiated the "Bacon for Britain" campaign of increased production as part of the war effort. In the 1950s, he pioneered exporting cattle by airplane allowing the Canadian industry to develop new markets in Mexico and the United Kingdom. Hays is the creator and namesake of the Hays Converter beef cattle breed. Harry Hays is credited with starting the Calgary Stampede pancake breakfast tradition. In 1934 ... Juan Enrique Hayes ( es, Juan Enrique Hayes, 20 January 1891 – 25 July 1976) was an Argentine footballer, who played his entire career for Rosario Central (where he spent 20 years). Hayes also played for the Argentina national team. Nicknamed ''Harry'', ''Maestro'', and ''Inglés'', Hayes, with 221 official goals (including AFA and Liga Rosarina competitions) is the all-time leading top scorer in the history of Rosario Central. Moreover, Hayes is the most winning player with 20 official titles won (5 AFA championships, and 15 titles in Rosario regional leagues). Harry Hay
Henry "Harry" Hay Jr. (April 7, 1912 – October 24, 2002) was an American gay rights activist, communist, and labor advocate. He was a co-founder of the Mattachine Society, the first sustained gay rights group in the United States, as well as the Radical Faeries, a loosely affiliated gay spiritual movement. Born to an upper middle class family in England, Hay was raised in Chile and California. From an early age, he acknowledged his same-sex sexual attraction, and came under the influence of Marxism. Briefly studying at Stanford University, he subsequently became a professional actor in Los Angeles, where he joined the Communist Party USA, becoming a committed activist in left-wing labor. As a result of societal pressure, he attempted to become heterosexual by marrying a female Party activist in 1938, with whom he adopted two children. Harold Thomas Pace Hayes (April 18, 1926 – April 5, 1989), editor of '' Esquire'' magazine from 1963 to 1973, was a main architect of the New Journalism movement. Biography Born April 18, 1926, in Elkin, North Carolina, Harold Hayes earned an undergraduate degree from Wake Forest College, worked for United Press in Atlanta, served in the Marines, moved to New York City to work for a small magazine called ''Pageant'', and wound up in 1956 at '' Esquire'', where he battled with several other young editors, among them Clay Felker (who went on to found '' New York'' magazine), for the job of top editor. Hayes won that contest, becoming first managing editor and then, on October 1, 1963, editor.
