Harry Harris (footballer)
Harry Harris (2 November 1933 – 9 June 2004) was a Welsh professional footballer. Harris was born in Magor, Monmouthshire. An inside-forward or wing half, he joined Newport County in 1954 from local club Undy United. Magor, Monmouthshire
Magor (; cy, Magwyr) is a large village in Monmouthshire, south east Wales, about west of Chepstow and about east of Newport. It lies on the Caldicot Levels beside the Severn Estuary, and is in the community of Magor with Undy. Magor lies close to the M4 motorway. History The original Welsh language name ''Magwyr'', from which the English name is derived, is thought to originate from the Latin ''maceria'', meaning masonry walls or ruins. It may relate either to a now-lost Roman villa in the area, or alternatively to sea defences or a causeway built by the Romans. Magor and the surrounding area contain many Roman ruins and artefacts, and the village centre was originally located at the inner edge of salt marshes which the Romans began to reclaim as farmland. The local name "Whitewall" may relate to the same causeway, which would have connected the village to a small now-vanished harbour on the Severn Estuary known as Abergwaitha or Aberweytha. Undy United
Undy ( cy, Gwndy) is a village in Monmouthshire, south east Wales, adjoining the village of Magor with which it forms the community and parish of Magor with Undy. It is located about west of Caldicot and east of Newport, close to the junction of the M4 and M48 motorways, and adjoins the Caldicot Levels on the north bank of the Bristol Channel. History The area was first settled in Roman times. In 1996 a stone coffin dating from the 3rd or 4th century was found during building work, containing the skeleton of a young woman. The village name is of uncertain origin. Previous spellings include Wondy, as noted by William Camden in 1610. The manor was an early seat of the Seymour family.
