Harry Gray (business)
Harry Jack Gray (November 18, 1919 – July 8, 2009) was an American business manager and philanthropist, best known as CEO and chairman of United Technologies. He was born Harry Jack Grusin in Milledgeville Crossroads, Georgia. His mother, Bertha Grusin, died of cancer when he was six years old. He went to live with his older sister, Gussie, in Chicago, Illinois. His father's business failed when he was eight, and he financed his college education at the University of Illinois with multiple jobs that included washing dishes, waiting tables, and stoking a boarding-house furnace. He graduated with a journalism degree in 1941, and immediately joined the U.S. Army. His service included a year in the U.S. and three and a half years overseas during World War II. He received the Silver Star for valor in the Battle of the Bulge, and was discharged as a captain. Gray resumed his studies at U of I, completing a master's degree, with high honors, in 1947. Battle Of Britain Memorial, Capel-le-Ferne
The Battle of Britain Memorial is a monument to aircrew who flew in the Battle of Britain. It is sited on the White Cliffs of Dover, White Cliffs at Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone, on the coast of Kent. History It was initiated by the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust, and opened by the Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Queen Mother on 9 July 1993. It is formed of a large propeller-shaped base, with the figure of a seated pilot carved by Harry Gray (sculptor), Harry Gray sitting at the centre. The propeller shape has led the monument to be considered a hill figure. Also on the site are replicas of a Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire and the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall, on which appears the names of the almost 3,000 fighter aircrew who flew in the Battle. Harry Gray (hurler)
Henry Gray (7 July 1915– 7 September 1978) was an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Laois and Dublin senior team. Gray made his first appearance for the Laois team during the 1934 championship and later joined the Dublin team. He ended his career with Laois after the 1949 championship. During that time he won one All-Ireland medal, five Leinster medals and one National Hurling League medal. Harold Lincoln Gray (January 20, 1894 – May 9, 1968) was an American cartoonist, best known as the creator of the newspaper comic strip ''Little Orphan Annie''. Early life Harold Gray was born in Kankakee, Illinois on January 20, 1894, to Estella Mary () and Ira Lincoln Gray, a farmer. Both parents died before he finished high school in 1912 in West Lafayette, Indiana, where the family had moved. In 1913, he got his first newspaper job at a Lafayette daily. He could trace his American ancestry back to 17th-century settlers. He grew up on farms in Illinois and Indiana, and worked in construction to pay his college tuition at Purdue University. He graduated with a degree in engineering by 1917. Gray approached cartoonist John T. McCutcheon for advice on breaking into the cartooning field. He could not immediately get cartooning work, but McCutcheon's influence got him work as a reporter for the ''Chicago Tribune'' before he enlisted in the military for World War I, where he was ...
