Harry Flaherty (linebacker)
Harry Edward Flaherty (born December 15, 1961) is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys. He also was a member of the Tampa Bay Bandits of the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football at the College of the Holy Cross. Early years Flaherty attended Red Bank Catholic High School, where he played football, baseball and track. He accepted a football scholarship from the College of the Holy Cross. He also played baseball. He was a four-year starter at middle linebacker and finished as the school's all-time leader with 447 tackles. As a senior in 1983, he set a school record with 152 tackles in a season, while also contributing to the team winning the Lambert Cup Championship and advancing to the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs for the first time in school history. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. Harry Flaherty (born April 26, 1989) is a former American football tight end. He played college football at Princeton University. Early years Flaherty attended Red Bank Catholic High School, where he practiced football and track. He was a two-way player at tight end and linebacker. In his career, he posted 36 receptions for 580 yards, 8 touchdowns and 200 tackles. He was a two-time All-county selection and received All-conference honors as a senior. He accepted a football scholarship from Princeton University. As a junior, he was named a starter at tight end, registering 18 receptions for 193 yards. Jason Calvin Garrett (born March 28, 1966) is a former American football player and coach and current broadcaster. He previously served as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for the 2010s from 2010-2019. Garrett has also been offensive coordinator and assistant head coach for the Cowboys and quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins. Marvin Dale Jones (born March 8, 1963) is an American football coach and former player. He was most recently the defensive coordinator for Appalachian State. He served in various capacities for Appalachian State (1996-2022), including three years as defensive coordinator (2010–2012). Jones previously worked as a defensive coordinator for Georgia Military College (1992–1996) and the Parma Panthers (1990) of the Italian Football League (IFL). Jones played linebacker at the University of Tennessee, where he was a member of the 1985 "Sugar Vols" squad, and was a captain of the 1986 team. The 1987 NFL season was the 68th regular season of the National Football League. This season featured games predominantly played by replacement players, as the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) players were on strike from weeks four to six with week three being cancelled in its entirety. This remains the last NFL season in which regular-season games were impacted by a labor conflict (as well as the last season when non-union players were used as strike-breaking competitors). 1986 USFL Season
The 1986 USFL season would have been the fourth season of the United States Football League. Plans and a schedule had been set for a 1986 season, which (unlike the previous three seasons, which were played in spring) would have played in the autumn and winter months, but the failure to secure a large judgment or concessions through a landmark antitrust lawsuit against the National Football League, combined with the seizure of one of the team's assets, days before the season was to begin led the league to postpone, then ultimately cancel the season and cease operations. The federal court judgement found the NFL guilty of violating antitrust guidelines on July 29, 1986, but the USFL was only awarded $1 (eventually raised to $3.76 through automatic trebling and compound interest, though the league never claimed the money) in damages plus court costs, as the jury found that the actions of the USFL owners had done as much in detriment to themselves as did the actions of the NFL. The 1985 USFL season was the third and final season of the United States Football League (USFL), and the last by a league using that name until the 2022 USFL season.
