Harry Davies (footballer, Born 1904)
Harold Augustus Davies MM (29 January 1904 – 23 April 1975) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Huddersfield Town, Port Vale and most notably, Stoke City. A creative inside-forward, he played 513 games in the league and FA Cup, scoring 122 goals. His father, also called Harry, was also a professional footballer. He spent seven seasons with Stoke from 1922 to 1929, helping the club to the Third Division North title in 1926–27. He then spent two seasons with Huddersfield Town, and featured in the 1930 FA Cup Final defeat to Arsenal. He made a return to Stoke in February 1932, and spent another six seasons at the Victoria Ground, helping the club to the Second Division title in 1932–33. Having scored 101 goals in 411 matches for the "Potters" in his two spells, he was traded to Port Vale in February 1938. He retired in April 1939, and later fought in World War II. Harry Davies is a Welsh professional Rugby Union player who played for Cardiff Blues, Bath rugby, and Bedford Blues, his main positions are fullback and wing. Davies is currently playing for the Seattle Seawolves, a Major League Rugby club. Early life Davies started playing Rugby at Llantrisant RFC before becoming a part of the Cardiff Blues academy at the age of 17. Club Rugby Whilst part of the Blues academy Davies played on loan for Cardiff RFC. Davies also trained with the Welsh Sevens squad and represented the Blues in the World Club Sevens. Harry Davies (politician)
Harry Herbert Davies (9 June 1878 – 31 August 1957) was a Southern Rhodesian Labour politician and Leader of the Opposition in the territory's Legislative Assembly from 1929 to 1944. Originally from Wales, he moved to Southern Rhodesia in 1920 and became an estate agent in Bulawayo. He ran for the Southern Rhodesian Labour Party in Bulawayo District in the 1924 general election, but was not elected. After standing successfully in Bulawayo South in the 1928 election, he sat in the Southern Rhodesian Legislative Assembly for 20 years. In 1929 he was elected leader of the Southern Rhodesian Labour Party, thereby becoming Leader of the Opposition, a post he held until 1944. Re-elected in Bulawayo South in the 1933 and 1934 elections, in 1939 Davies switched to the new Hillside constituency in southern Bulawayo, which he won, and held in 1946. Harry Donald Davies (13 March 1892 – 6 February 1958) was an English first-class cricketer, amateur footballer and journalist. By then a journalist, he was killed in the Munich air disaster. He was an uncle to historian Norman Davies. Sporting career A talented footballer in his youth, Davies played as a right winger for the Northern Nomads F.C. and Port Vale. He was capped three times for the England national amateur football team in 1914, with tours of Austria, Hungary and Romania. Also in 1914 he was offered a professional contract with Stoke City but as war had broken out he instead decided to join the Royal Flying Corps. Just a fortnight after receiving his wings, Davies was shot down over the French town of Douai, captured, and placed in a German Prisoner of War camp. When he eventually returned to England he weighed only six stone and army doctors had given him no more than six months to live. Henry Davies (1888 – 1927) was a Welsh socialist politician and trade unionist. Born in Morfa, Davies worked as a coal miner, then as a checkweighman. He joined the Independent Labour Party (ILP), and was a founder member of the Aberavon Constituency Labour Party. He was elected to served on the National Administrative Committee of the ILP, as the representative of its Welsh Division, from 1910 until 1912, and again from 1925. Harry Elinder Davies (24 June 1915 – 20 January 2005) was a Rhodesian and Zimbabwean lawyer and judge. Biography Born in Bulawayo, Rhodesia, Davies was educated at Milton School, Bulawayo, St George's College, Salisbury, and the University of Cape Town, where he took the BA (Law), BCom, and LLB. He was admitted to the South Rhodesian Bar in 1939 and practised as an advocate in Bulawayo. He became a Queen's Counsel in 1956. A member of the Bar Council since 1950, he was chairman of the Bar Council and leader of the Bar from 1961 until his appointment to the bench in 1964. Davies had a long-standing interest in the welfare of the African population, and was a longstanding member of the African Welfare Society.
