Harry Burton (English Footballer)
Henry Arthur Burton (1881 – 28 August 1923) was an English professional footballer who played for Sheffield Wednesday, West Brom and Scunthorpe United. Sheffield Wednesday Burton joined Sheffield Wednesday prior to the start of the 1902/03 season, from Attercliffe, but did not make an appearance for the first team that season, with Sheffield Wednesday going on to win the League in the 1902–03 season. Despite being born in West Bromwich Burton lived in the Sheffield area from the age of four, playing football for Huntman's Garden School, Chippingham and Attercliffe prior to signing for Sheffield Wednesday. In Burton's early career at Sheffield Wednesday he was described as a left-back who was "well built and clever" and competed for the left-back position with Ambrose Langley, who he eventually overtook as first choice in 1903. West Bromwich ( ) is a market town in the borough of Sandwell, West Midlands, England. Historically part of Staffordshire, it is north-west of Birmingham. The Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup is a county cup competition involving teams within the Sheffield and Hallamshire County Football Association. For the first time ever, a London (and Southern) team, Woolwich Arsenal, were promoted to the First Division and made the league's reach nationwide. Midland Football League (1889)
The Midland Football League was a semi-professional football league in England. It acted as a feeder league to the Football League for many years before merging with the Yorkshire League in 1982 to form the Northern Counties East League. History Founded in 1889, only one year after the Football League, the Midland League was the second league for professional clubs to be formed. Eleven clubs participated in the first season, 1889–90, four of whom (including the first champions, Lincoln City) would go on to achieve Football League status. The eleven founder members came from six counties.
