Harry Buffington
Harry Webster Buffington (August 27, 1919 – November 19, 2003) was an American football guard, coach, and scout. He played for the New York Giants in 1942 and for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1946 to 1948. He attended and played college football for Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State). Career At Oklahoma A&M, Buffington played quarterback and running back. In 1941, with news of his teammates joining the military, reports surfaced of Buffington expressing interest in the Royal Canadian Air Force, though he instead joined the Giants in the National Football League in 1942. Although he started the season as the third-string halfback, he was moved to guard in October after executing a block on a Philadelphia Eagles defender that sent him into Giants head coach Steve Owen; impressed, Owen changed his position to fill in for the injured Monk Edwards. Guard (gridiron Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center (American football), center and the offensive tackle, tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for Blocking (American football), blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. Mickey Colmer
John Francis "Mickey" Colmer (October 23, 1918 – July 20, 2000) was an American football fullback. Colmer was born in Torrance, California, in 1918 and attended Redondo Union High School. He was an All-Southland fullback in 1936. He did not play college football, opting instead to play professional baseball after graduating from high school. He played minor league baseball for three years with the Moline Plowboys (1938), Bisbee Bees (1938-1939), and Tucson Cowboys (1940). He compiled a .353 batting average with Bisbee in 1938. Elmore Harris (b. February 23, 1855 Beamsville, Ontario – d. December 19, 1911 Delhi, India) was a Canadian Baptist pastor. Baltimore Colts (1947–1950)
The Baltimore Colts were a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. The first team to bear the name Baltimore Colts, it was a member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) from 1947 to 1949 and then joined the National Football League (NFL) for one season before folding. The Colts were one of the least successful teams in the AAFC and NFL both on and off the field, winning only 11 of their 54 games in their history.
