Harry Edward Bolton (24 December 1870 – 18 August 1956) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 1904 to 1917, as the member for Electoral district of North Fremantle, North Fremantle until 1911 and for Electoral district of South Fremantle, South Fremantle thereafter. He was initially a member of the Australian Labor Party (Western Australian Branch), Labor Party before joining the National Labor Party after the 1916 conscription split. Early life Harry Edward Bolton was born on 24 December 1870 in Peckham, London. He emigrated with his family to Western Australia at the age of 16, arriving on 21 June 1887. Bolton began working on the railways in 1890 where he became involved in the trade union movement. In 1900, he was elected president of the Enginedrivers', Firemen and Cleaners' Union. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. The Parliament sits in Parliament House in the Western Australian capital, Perth. The Legislative Assembly today has 59 members, elected for four-year terms from single-member electoral districts. Members are elected using the preferential voting system. As with all other Australian states and territories, voting is compulsory for all Australian citizens over the legal voting age of 18.
