Henry Lawrie Bell
Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Lawrie Bell (1929–1984) was a career officer in the Australian Army and a notable amateur ornithologist. He grew up and went to school in Maroubra, New South Wales. Bell was interested in ornithology from an early age and became familiar with the birds of the Sydney region. In 1974 he attended the International Ornithological Congress in Canberra. When he was posted to New Guinea from 1975 to 1978 he took the opportunity to make substantial ecological studies of birds there, resulting in the publication of numerous papers in the journal of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union, the ''Emu'', and elsewhere. Henry Davey "Harry" Bell (14 October 1924 – 22 April 2014) was an English professional footballer, born in Castletown, County Durham, who made more than 400 appearances in the Football League playing as a wing half for Middlesbrough and Darlington. He went on to manage Spennymoor United, taking the club from the first qualifying round of the 1963–64 FA Amateur Cup to the fourth round proper. Bell had a long cricket career with Durham County Cricket Club playing in the Minor Counties Championship. Harry Bell (September 21, 1860 – November 10, 1938) was a United States Army Captain received the Medal of Honor for actions during October 17, 1899, during the Philippine–American War for leading a charge against a superior number of the enemy. Biography Harry Bell was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Adam Bell and Katherina Matilda (Boettinger) Bell. In 1899 he was living in Minneapolis, Minnesota when joined the 36th United States Volunteer Infantry and was promoted to the rank of captain. The regiment was posted to the Philippines the same year. On October 17, 1899 he engaged in the action at Porac on the island of Luzon, for which he later received the Medal of Honor. After leaving the Army, he married Kate Reimers on 3 August 1904 in Davenport, Iowa and they had 3 sons. As of 1910 he worked at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas where he was an electrician and, as of 1920, he was the chief clerk of the military prison there. Harold Bell (October 5, 1919 – December 4, 2009) was an American marketer and merchandising executive who co-created Woodsy Owl, the Cultural icon, iconic mascot of the United States Forest Service. Bell created Woodsy Owl with two U.S. park rangers, Chuck Williams (park ranger), Chuck Williams and Glenn Kovar, and another colleague, Betty Hite, for the first Earth Day in 1970.
