Harrow (tool)
In agriculture, a harrow is a farm implement used for surface tillage. It is used after ploughing for breaking up and smoothing out the surface of the soil. The purpose of harrowing is to break up clods and to provide a soil structure, called tilth, that is suitable for planting seeds. Coarser harrowing may also be used to remove weeds and to cover seed after sowing. Harrows differ from ploughs, which cut the upper 12 to 25 centimetre (5 to 10 in) layer of soil, and leave furrows, parallel trenches. Harrows differ from cultivators in that they disturb the whole surface of the soil, while a cultivator instead disturbs only narrow tracks between the crop rows to kill weeds. There are four general types of harrows: disc harrows, tine harrows (including spring-tooth harrows, drag harrows, and spike harrows), chain harrows, and chain-disk harrows. Andy Harrow (born 6 November 1956) is a Scottish former football player. Playing career Andy Harrow was born in Kirkcaldy in 1956. He began his career with Cowdenbeath, signing from Junior club Greig Park Rangers in 1973. After four seasons at Cowdenbeath, he joined home town club Raith Rovers. Belinda Harrow (born 1971) is a Saskatchewan based visual artist. She was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, and moved to Saskatchewan at the age of three. She works in a variety of mediums, such as: painting, installation, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, and fabric. Her works have been exhibited across Canada and internationally. Education Harrow received her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Saskatchewan in 1993, a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1996, and a Master of Fine Arts from University of Canterbury in 2005. Jack Harrow
Jack Harry Harrow (8 October 1888 – 19 July 1958) was an English footballer who spent his entire professional career at Chelsea. He played mainly as a left-back. He was good at tackling and he also had an accurate shot. Harrow signed for Chelsea for a fee of £50 from Croydon Common in 1911 and remained until 1926. He was club captain for much of that period, and led Chelsea to their first appearance in an FA Cup final in 1915, although they lost 3–0 on the day to Sheffield United in a match overshadowed by World War I. He was the first Chelsea player to make over 300 appearances, and ended his career with 333 in all competitions. He played twice for the England national team, winning caps against Northern Ireland and Sweden in 1922 and 1923 respectively. He died in 1958. Nancy Harrow (born October 3, 1930, New York City) is an American jazz singer and songwriter. Career Harrow studied classical piano beginning at age seven, then decided to pursue careers in dancing and singing. She released an album for Candid Records in 1961 (featuring Kenny Burrell, Buck Clayton, Dickie Wells, and Milt Hinton) and one for Atlantic Records in 1963 (featuring John Lewis, Dick Katz, Phil Woods, Jim Hall, Richard Davis, and Connie Kay), then left music to raise a family. William Harrow
William Harrow (November 14, 1822 – September 27, 1872) was an American lawyer and soldier who served as a Union general in the American Civil War. Early life and career Harrow was born in Winchester, Kentucky, United States of America, and was educated in the common schools. He studied law and passed his bar exam in Lawrenceville, Illinois, where he established a practice. As an attorney on the Eighth Judicial Circuit, he was a frequent associate of Abraham Lincoln for several years before moving to Vincennes, Indiana. Richard Harrow is a fictional character on the television series ''Boardwalk Empire'', played by the actor Jack Huston. Fictional biography Backstory Richard was a sharpshooter in the US Army during World War I.
