Harristown is a residential locality in Toowoomba in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Harristown had a population of 8,555 people. Geography Harristown is located to the southwest of the Toowoomba city centre. History The locality is named after George Harris (1831–1891), a Brisbane businessman and Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Originally in the Shire of Drayton, the locality was first opened as the Harristown Estate in 1902. The estate consisted of 177 building sites ranging from . Forty blocks were sold at the auction. Harristown State School opened on 4 September 1911 with 67 students. The official opening on Saturday 30 September 1911 was performed by the acting Secretary for Education Kenneth Grant, by which time the enrolment had already increased to 84 students. Harristown ( ga, Baile Hanraí) is a civil parish and electoral division (ED) in County Kildare in Ireland, about southwest of Kildare town. Until 1842 the parish was part of an exclave of the barony of Upper Philipstown in King's County (now County Offaly). In the Church of Ireland until the Irish Church Act 1869 the parish benefice was a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Kildare, forming the corps of the prebend of Harristown in Kildare Cathedral, in the patronage of the bishop. The civil parish of Harristown contains the following 16 townlands: Bawn, Boghall, Boherbaun Lower, Boherbaun Upper or Monapheeby, Cherrymills, Clarey, Cloneybeg, Coolagh, Eskerhill, Harristown (Lower and Upper), Lenagorra, Mylerstown, Pullagh, and Rickardstown (Lower and Upper). Harristown, Illinois
Harristown is a village in Macon County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,310 at the 2020 census. It is included in the Decatur, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The village was named in honor of Major Thomas L. Harris, who was elected and served as Major of the Fourth Illinois Regiment in the Mexican–American War, and who was afterward a member of Congress from 1849 to 1858. The first settlers arrived in 1828 and began building log cabins and improving land around the area. 1841 saw the building of the township’s first schoolhouse, a log building, and served as both the school and as a place of worship until 1853 when the first church was built. Harristown was along the main line of the Wabash Railroad, which contributed to increased population and business. Harristown was the first Illinois home of Abraham Lincoln.
