Harrington Road Tram Stop
Harrington Road tram stop is a light rail stop in South Norwood in the London Borough of Croydon in the southern suburbs of London. Harrington Road is in a residential area, and along with Woodside tram stop is the nearest tram stop to the town of South Norwood. Beckenham Crematorium and Cemetery, Beckenham Cemetery lies immediately to the east and there is an entrance immediately adjacent to the tramstop. The tram stop, which is served by Tramlink, connects to central Croydon. The stop is at ground level on double track, with platforms on each side of the track. Immediately to the north of the stop, the route becomes single track and turns sharply to the east, joining the trackbed of the existing railway line between Crystal Palace railway station, Crystal Palace and Beckenham Junction station, Beckenham Junction stations. London Trams, previously Tramlink and Croydon Tramlink, is a light rail tram system serving Croydon and surrounding areas in South London, England. It began operation in 2000, the first tram system in the London region since 1952. It is managed by London Trams, a public body part of Transport for London (TfL), and has been operated by FirstGroup since 2017. Tramlink is one of two light rail networks in Greater London, the other being the Docklands Light Railway. South Norwood
South Norwood is a district of south-east London, England, within the London Borough of Croydon, Greater London and formerly in the historic county of Surrey. It is located 7.8 miles (12.5 km) south-east of Charing Cross, north of Woodside and Addiscombe, east of Selhurst and Thornton Heath, south of Crystal Palace/ Upper Norwood and Anerley, and west of Elmers End and Penge. Together with Norwood New Town, it forms the electoral ward of South Norwood in the local authority of Croydon. The ward as a whole had a resident population in 2001 of just over 14,000. Woodside tram stop is a light rail stop situated between Woodside Green and Ashburton Park in the London Borough of Croydon in the southern suburbs of London. The stop is located on the site of the former Woodside railway station (London), Woodside railway station of the Woodside and South Croydon Railway; the old station buildings survive, though not used by Tramlink. The tram stop has a platform on each side of the track with access to both platforms by stairs on the west side of the station building and by ramps on the east side. Beckenham Crematorium And Cemetery
Beckenham Crematorium and Cemetery is a cemetery in the London Borough of Bromley, opened in 1876. Location and history Beckenham Crematorium and Cemetery is located between South Norwood Country Park and Birkbeck. The cemetery was opened in 1876 although it is often erroneously reported as 1880 and was initially known as the Crystal Palace District Cemetery. It is often referred to today as the Elmers End Cemetery due to its location within Beckenham and proximity to Elmers End station. During the Second World War the larger of the cemetery’s two chapels was devastated during air raids and had to be demolished. The chapel that survived the bombing was converted to include cremation facilities and opened in 1956.
