Abu Ja'far Harun ibn Muhammad al-Mahdi ( ar , أبو جعفر هارون ابن محمد المهدي) or Harun ibn al-Mahdi (; or 766 – 24 March 809), famously known as Harun al-Rashid ( ar, هَارُون الرَشِيد, translit=Hārūn al-Rashīd) was the fifth Abbasid caliph of the Abbasid Caliphate, reigning from September 786 until his death. His reign is traditionally regarded to be the beginning of the Islamic Golden Age. His epithet "al-Rashid" translates to "the Orthodox", "the Just", "the Upright", or "the Rightly-Guided". Harun established the legendary library Bayt al-Hikma ("House of Wisdom") in Baghdad in present-day Iraq, and during his rule Baghdad began to flourish as a world center of knowledge, culture and trade. Haroon Rashid Aswat (born in Britain) is a British citizen of South Asian origin with ancestral ethnic roots to Gujarat, born and raised in Yorkshire. American officials allege that he has ties to al Qaeda, and have sought his extradition to the United States, which is supported by the British Government. After his internment in Broadmoor Hospital in 2008, in 2010 the European Court of Human Rights blocked efforts to extradite Aswat due to concerns over the conditions of his potential imprisonment in the United States. Harun-or-Rashid (born 27 October 1954) is a Bangladeshi academic. He is a former vice-chancellor of Bangladesh National University. Education Born in Barishal District, Rashid obtained bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Dhaka. He earned his Ph.D. degree from the University of London in 1983. He was engaged in post-doctoral research at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies in University of London during 1992–93 under Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship. Harun Rashid Khan, was a Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India between 2011 and 2016. Early life and education Khan had his early schooling at Badagada Highschool in Bhubaneswar.
