Harold Tom Baillie-Grohman
Vice-Admiral Harold Tom Baillie-Grohman, CB, DSO, OBE (16 January 1888 – 23 September 1978) was a Royal Navy officer. Biography Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Baillie-Grohman was the son of the writer William Adolf Baillie Grohman and of Florence, ''née'' Nickalls, daughter of Tom Nickalls. Baillie-Grohman entered HMS ''Britannia'' as a cadet in 1903 and was promoted Lieutenant in 1909. In 1914, he was given command of the destroyer HMS ''Lively'' in March 1914, and subsequently commanded HMS ''Ghurka'', HMS ''Gentian'', and HMS ''Totnes'' during the First World War, serving both in the Grand Fleet and the Dover Patrol. Promoted to Lieutenant-Commander in 1917, he was appointed DSO in 1918 for his part in minesweeping operations. After the First World War, Baillie-Grohman was employed on minesweeping operations off the coast of Belgium, then commanded the sloop HMS ''Crocus'' in the Persian Gulf. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Military Order". The Order of Brilliant Jade is a civilian order of the Republic of China that can be worn only by the head of a nation. According to regulations, the order can only be presented by the president of the country or an emissary expressly dispatched to friendly nations for the conferment. The order was instituted in 1933. It has a star-patterned face of inlaid jade bordered with gold and pearls. In the centre there is white sun surrounded by blue sky, the national emblem. Order Of The Star Of Ethiopia
The Order of the Star of Ethiopia was established as an order of knighthood of the Ethiopian Empire, founded by the Negus of Shoa and later Emperor of Ethiopia Menelik II in 1884–1885. It is currently awarded as a house order by the Crown Council of Ethiopia.
