Harold Joseph Thomas (born 1947), also known as Bundoo, is an Aboriginal Australian artist and former activist, known for designing and copyrighting the Australian Aboriginal Flag. He claims to have designed the flag in 1971 as a symbol of the Aboriginal land rights movement, and in 1995 it was made an official "Flag of Australia". He later asserted copyright over his design, eventually transferring that copyright to the Commonwealth of Australia and making it freely available for public use in January 2022. Early life and education Harold Joseph Thomas (Bundoo) was born in 1947 to a Wombai father and Luritja mother in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. He remembers drawing and painting on pieces of paper from an early age. Harold Watkin Thomas (19 February 1914 – 10 December 1989) was a Welsh dual-code international rugby union, and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s and 1940s. He played representative level rugby union (RU) for Wales and Wales XV, and at club level for his native town of Neath, as a lock, and representative level rugby league (RL) for Wales, and at club level for Salford, as a . Background Harold Thomas was born in Neath, Wales in 1914. His father Tom played rugby for Neath, and his brother David was also capped for Wales. A metal worker by trade Thomas served as a regimental sergeant major in the maritime branch of the Royal Artillery during the Second World War. Harold Frederick Thomas (11 January 1909 – 29 March 1933) was a New Zealand Boxing, boxer who competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics. He was eliminated in the first round of the Boxing at the 1932 Summer Olympics – Men's welterweight, welterweight class after losing his fight to Italy's Luciano Fabbroni. Thomas was born in Wellington. He died in Wellington aged 24, less than a year after his appearance at the Olympics. Harold Wolferstan Thomas (1875–1931) was a Canadian doctor, noted for his research in the field of tropical medicine. Early life Harold Wolferstan Thomas was born in 1875 in Montreal, Quebec, the son of the banker Francis Wolferstan Thomas (1834-1900) and his wife Harriet Amelia Thomas (née Goodhue). He studied medicine at McGill University in Montreal until 1897. Career Thomas worked in Germany (including at Göttingen and Munich) and at the Montreal General Hospital. From 1903, he worked at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and from 1904 was head of a laboratory in Runcorn. In 1904 he took part in an expedition to study tropical diseases in the Amazon region. Along with Anton Breinl (1880-1944), he discovered in 1905 that the arsenic preparation Atoxyl killed Trypanosomatida, trypanosomes, the causative agent of sleeping sickness.
