Harold Paddock Jr.
Harold Dewolf Paddock Jr. (December 17, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio – February 27, 2000 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida) was a well-known amateur golfer in the northeast Ohio area, having won the Ohio Amateur Championship in 1948 and 1950, and was a member of the 1951 Walker Cup team. Paddock turned pro shortly thereafter and played professionally. Paddock lived in Aurora, Ohio from 1955 until he relocated permanently to Florida after the death of his wife, Margie (née Stoneman). The Paddock family owned and operated the Aurora Country Club and the Moreland Hills Country Club (both now closed), in the suburban Cleveland area. Paddock was inducted into the Northern Ohio Golf Hall of Fame, along with his father, golf course architect Harold Dewolf Paddock Sr. (1888–1969) in 2006, both being recognized for their many achievements and contributions to the game of golf in northern Ohio. 1951 Walker Cup
The 1951 Walker Cup, the 13th Walker Cup Match, was played on 11 and 12 May 1951, at Royal Birkdale Golf Club, Southport, Lancashire, England. The United States won by 6 matches to 3 with 3 matches halved. Format Four 36-hole matches of foursomes were played on Friday and eight singles matches on Saturday. Each of the 12 matches was worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match was all square after the 36th hole extra holes were not played. The team with most points won the competition. If the two teams were tied, the previous winner would retain the trophy. Teams Great Britain & Ireland had a team of 10 plus a non-playing captain. Aurora, Ohio
Aurora is a city in Portage County, Ohio, United States. It is a suburb of Cleveland and Akron, Ohio, and is co-extensive with, and formed from, the former township of Aurora, which was formed from the Connecticut Western Reserve. Walker Cup
The Walker Cup is a golf trophy contested in odd-numbered years by leading male amateur golfers in two teams: United States, and Great Britain and Ireland. The official name is the Walker Cup Match (not "Matches" as in Ryder Cup Matches). It is organised by The R&A and the United States Golf Association (USGA). In 1921 the Royal Liverpool Golf Club hosted an unofficial contest which was followed by official annual contests from 1922 through 1924. From 1925 they became biennial, held on even-number years. After World War II they switched to odd-numbered years. They are held alternately in the U.S., and Ireland or Britain. The cup is named after George Herbert Walker who was president of the USGA in 1920 when the match was initiated. Walker is the grandfather and namesake of George H. W.
