Harold Mason (politician)
Harold Harvey Mason KC (28 January 1890 – 8 May 1949) was an Australian politician who represented the Electoral district of Woollahra from 26 June 1937 until 24 February 1938 as an Independent United Australia Party MP. Mason was the son of William Henry Mason, shipping master of the Port of Sydney, and Sarah Jane Dunn. He married Marjorie Frances Macken on 18 December 1914 and had one daughter and three sons with each other. He died on 8 May 1949 in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia. His funeral was held at Northern Suburbs crematorium from St Mark's Church of England, Darling Point, Sydney. Harold Andrew Mason
Harold Andrew Mason (30 July 1911 – 25 November 1993) was a lecturer of English at Exeter University. He was born in Hull, England in 1911. He was educated at Hull Grammar School, Christ's Hospital, Hull University College and Oriel College, Oxford. He graduated from Oxford in 1934. He became a teacher of Classics at Stamford School. In 1937, Mason began teaching Classics at a school in Switzerland and also started contributing to ''Scrutiny''. He got married in 1945. In 1949, he was Assistant Director of Studies in English at Downing College, Cambridge. He was an editor of ''Scrutiny'' from 1949 until it ceased publication in 1953. From 1955-65 he was a lecturer at Exeter University. Mason was elected to F. R. Leavis Lectureship and a Fellow of Clare Hall in 1965. In 1966 he founded ''The Cambridge Quarterly'', of which he was the editor. The Mason family of Virginia is a historically significant American political family of English origin, whose prominent members are known for their accomplishments in politics, business, and the military. The progenitor of the Mason family, George Mason I (1629–1686), arrived at Norfolk, Virginia on the ship ''Assurance'' in 1652. Mason was a Cavalier member of the Parliament of England during the reign of Charles I of England. George Mason I's great-grandson was George Mason IV (1725–1792), an American patriot, statesman, and delegate from Virginia to the U.S. Constitutional Convention. Along with James Madison, George Mason IV is known as the "Father of the Bill of Rights."
