Harold Leslie Edwards
Harold Leslie Edwards Distinguished Flying Cross (United Kingdom), DFC Military Medal, MM (28 April 1893 – 15 June 1951) was a Canadians, Canadian World War I flying ace gunner, who in conjunction with his pilots, was officially credited with 21 victories.Franks, Guest and Gregory 1997, p. 15. Early life Edwards was the son of Joseph Harold Edwards and Ellen Keays; he was born in Franktown, Ontario on 28 April 1893. When he enlisted in the 130th Battalion, CEF on 16 December 1915 at Perth, Ontario, he was five feet eleven inches tall, weighed 168 pounds, and was swarthy with dark blue eyes. He gave his profession as chauffeur and auto mechanic. As was customary for Canadians in those days, he swore allegiance to the King of England, and contracted to serve for the duration of the war. Fokker was a Dutch aircraft manufacturer named after its founder, Anthony Fokker. The company operated under several different names. Geoffrey Herbert Hooper was an Australian World War I flying ace credited with eleven aerial victories, all against German fighter planes. World War I Hooper enlisted in the Royal Engineers on 1 November 1915. He transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in August 1916. He joined No. 11 Squadron RFC as pilot of a Bristol F.2 Fighter on 12 April 1917, three days before his 26th birthday. He scored his first victory on 26 June 1917. On 1 July 1917, Hooper was promoted to lieutenant. Only eight days later, on 9 July 1917, he was raised to flight commander and temporary captain. He scored twice more while with 11 Squadron, the last being on 11 September 1917, with Leslie Powell in the gunner's pit. Group Captain Horace Percy Lale (8 April 1886 – 5 April 1955) was a Royal Air Force officer and British World War I flying ace credited with 23 victories. First World War Lale was commissioned a temporary second lieutenant in the Royal Flying Corps on 26 September 1916.
