Harold Davis (American Football)
Harold Davis (May 12, 1934 – December 9, 2007) was an American college football and basketball player at Westminster College, Pennsylvania. A quarterback who could run as well as throw, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2004. Davis was one of four men from Westminster inducted the College Football Hall of Fame. He was a standout quarterback for the Titans from 1953 to 1956 and became the only three-time, first-team All-America football player in school history. Davis, who played quarterback under Hall of Fame head coach Harold Burry during a time when African-Americans rarely played the position, led Westminster to an overall record of 28–1–1 (.950), including the first undefeated seasons in school history in 1953 (8–0), 1955 (6–0–1) and 1956 (8–0). Harold Davis (10 May 1933 – 26 June 2018) was a Scottish professional footballer, who was best known for his time with Rangers. Player Born in Fife, Davis and his family moved to Perth after his father was injured during World War II. He began his senior football career at Scot Symon's East Fife and quickly gained praise as a tough tackling, no-nonsense defender, but was drafted for national service in 1951 and shunned easier alternative postings to join the Black Watch. Whilst in the army he fought in the Korean War and was seriously injured on the battlefield; he spent two years in hospitals recuperating from bullet wounds to his abdomen and foot. While recovering from his injuries, Davis was determined not just to live a 'normal' life but to be extremely fit and overcome any challenge, the first being the medical opinion that he would no longer be able to play professional football. Harold Davis (born January 5, 1921, in Salinas, California, died August 12, 2007) was an American Track and Field athlete. He was a World Record holder in the 100 metres. In 1974, he was elected to the USA Track & Field National Track and Field Hall of Fame. Athletic career Nicknamed the "California Comet", he tied Jesse Owens world record running into a headwind at the Compton Relays on June 6, 1941, and was regarded as the fastest sprinter in the world for a four-year period. Unfortunately for Davis, this was during World War II and the Olympics were cancelled, depriving him of an opportunity for international recognition. During the period 1940–43, Davis never lost a race over 220 y and only one over 100 y. This last race was a loss to the only man who could be considered his equal, Barney Ewell. Harold Davis (born 1953) is an American photographer and author. Early years Harold Davis was born in Princeton, New Jersey, the son of mathematician Martin Davis and fiber artist Virginia Davis, and grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. When he was five years old, his parents gave him a box camera and he fell in love with photography. Later, he became interested in painting and studied figurative and abstract painting at the Art Students League and Bennington College. Early photography career After graduating, Davis opened a studio in New York City where he was part of the art scene in the 1980s, socializing with artists including Basquiat, Julian Schnabel, Mark Kostabi, and Keith Haring. Harold Thayer Davis
Harold Thayer Davis (5 October 1892, in Beatrice, Nebraska – 14 November 1974, in Bloomington, Indiana) was a mathematician, statistician, and econometrician, known for the Davis distribution. Davis received in 1915 his A.B. from Colorado College, in 1919 his A.M. from Harvard University, and in 1926 his PhD under Edward Burr Van Vleck from the University of Wisconsin, after working there as a mathematics instructor from 1920 to 1923. From 1923 to 1937 he taught mathematics at the Indiana University Bloomington, becoming a professor there. From February to August 1937 he was acting research director of the Cowles Foundation, Cowles Commission. Davis became a professor in 1937 at Northwestern University in the mathematics department and the chair of the department in 1942.
