Harmony Independent School District
Harmony Independent School District is a public school district that serves west central Upshur County, Texas (USA), and a small portion of eastern Wood County. In 2009, the school district was rated " academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. History The district was founded in 1938, with the consolidation of Rosewood, Rhonesboro, Union (Little Mound), and Honey Creek schools. As the passage of the consolidation went with considerable ease, the name "Harmony" was chosen as the name for the new district. Other schools which later consolidated with Harmony include Grice, Peach, Enon, Soules Chapel, Latch, and part of Kelsey. Upshur County is a county located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,892. The county seat is Gilmer. The county is named for Abel P. Upshur, who was U.S. Secretary of State during President John Tyler's administration. Upshur County is part of the Longview, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area, as well as the Longview–Marshall, TX Combined Statistical Area. Wood County, Texas
Wood County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 44,843. Its county seat is Quitman. The county was named for George T. Wood, governor of Texas from 1847 to 1849. History The first documented European exploration of what is now Wood County took place in the late 18th century, when Pedro Vial, was sent on expeditions by the Spanish governor of Texas. After marching all the way to Santa Fe in 1787, he headed east to Natchitoches. The following year, he passed through today's Wood County on his way back to San Antonio. Robert Alexander Childress (born September 26, 1968) is a baseball coach and former pitcher, who is the current director of player development for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He played college baseball at Northwood from 1987 to 1990. He then served as head coach of the Texas A&M Aggies (2006–2021). Playing career Childress attended Harmony High School in Harmony, Texas. He was then recruited to Northwood University, where he would continue his athletic career as a pitcher, twice earning all-conference honors. College baseball is baseball that is played on the intercollegiate level at institutions of higher education. In comparison to football and basketball, college competition in the United States plays a smaller role in developing professional players, as baseball's professional minor leagues are more extensive, with a greater history of supplying players to MLB.
