Harm Habing
Harm Jan Habing (born 31 October 1937 in Tubbergen, Overijssel, Netherlands) is a Dutch astronomer and emeritus professor of astrophysics at Leiden University. Career Habing studied at the University of Groningen, first chemistry and physics, after which he switched to astronomy. He obtained his doctorate in Groningen in 1968 with a thesis entitled ''Studies of physical conditions in HI regions'' supervised by Stuart Robert Pottasch and Hendrik Christoffel van de Hulst. In 1971 Habing was appointed lecturer in astrophysics at Leiden University and in 1979 he was promoted to full professor. He has been emeritus professor since 2003. Ewine van Dishoeck and Xander Tielens were among Harm Habing's PhD students. Harm Habing was Editor-in-Chief of ''Astronomy & Astrophysics'' from 1996 to 2002. Ewine Van Dishoeck
Ewine Fleur van Dishoeck (born 13 June 1955, in Leiden) is a Dutch astronomer and chemist. She is Professor of Molecular Astrophysics at Leiden Observatory, and served as the President of the International Astronomical Union (2018–2021) and a co-editor of the '' Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics'' (2012–present). She is one of the pioneers of astrochemistry, and her research is aimed at determination of the structure of cosmic objects using their molecular spectra. Early life Ewine Fleur van Dishoeck was born on June 13, 1955, in Leiden, Netherlands. With her father being a professor of ear, nose, and throat medicine, her love of science was inspired at the young age of 12. Xander Tielens
Alexander Godfried Gerardus Maria (Xander) Tielens (born 1953) is an astronomer at Leiden Observatory, Leiden University, in the Netherlands. In 2012 he received the highest distinction in Dutch science, the Spinoza Prize. Biography Tielens has contributed significantly to several fields of astronomy, including interstellar physics and astrochemistry. He is mostly known for his work on large aromatic molecules (PAHs) in space and on photodissociation regions. He is also the author of a reference textbook on the interstellar medium. Tielens is the project scientist of the HIFI instrument on board of the Herschel Space Observatory. He used to be the NASA Project Scientist of the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy.
