Harley Sadler
Harley Herman Sadler (September 4, 1892 – October 14, 1954) was an American showman, oilman, and state legislator from Texas. He performed in tent shows. He joined Roy E. Fox's troupe. A Democrat, he served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1943 to 1953 and in the Texas Senate in 1953 and 1954. Sadler died in office, and David Ratliff David Wade Ratliff (20 April 1912 – 21 March 1995) was an American politician from Texas. Tent Show
Tent shows have been an important part of American history since the mid-to-late nineteenth century. In 1927, Don Carle Gillette gave "statistical evidence that the tented drama constituted 'a more extensive business than Broadway and all the rest of the legitimate theatre industry put together.'" The shows first began "in regions which couldn’t support full-time playhouses." Men such as Fayette Lodowick, one of the earliest tent show entrepreneurs, would travel around river towns all over the United States making money on traveling tent shows. These shows "were utilized for a variety of amusements including medicine shows, moving picture shows, vaudeville shows, circuses, musicals, concert companies, and any number of one-night stand dramatic troupes." Texas Senate
The Texas Senate ( es, Senado de Texas) is the upper house of the Texas State Legislature. There are 31 members of the Senate, representing single-member districts across the U.S. state of Texas, with populations of approximately 806,000 per constituency, based on the 2010 U.S. Census. There are no term limits, and each term is four years long. Elections are held in even-numbered years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. In elections in years ending in 2, all seats are up for election. Half of the senators will serve a two-year term, based on a drawing; the other half will fill regular four-year terms. In the case of the latter, they or their successors will be up for two-year terms in the next year that ends in 0. As such, in other elections, about half of the Texas Senate is on the ballot. David Ratliff
David Wade Ratliff (20 April 1912 – 21 March 1995) was an American politician from Texas. A Democrat who lived in Stamford, Texas, he served his first term in the Texas House of Representatives as a legislator from District 115. In his second term as state representative, Ratliff held the District 85 seat. After the death of state senator Harley Sadler, Ratliff won a December 1954 special election to replace him in District 24, and was succeeded as a state representative by Moyne Kelly.
