Harlan G. Palmer
Harlan G. Palmer (1885-1956) was a politician, judge, and newspaper publisher in Los Angeles County, California, in the early 20th century. Early life He was born on March 19, 1885, in Le Roy, Minnesota, and attended the University of Minnesota. He purchased a weekly newspaper in Leroy and edited it for two years, then took his invalid father's place as head of a retail lumber and coal business. Career Palmer came to California in 1911 and immediately purchased the weekly Hollywood Citizen. In the fall he enrolled in the University of California Law School and passed the state bar examination in 1913. He was the first attorney to set up practice in Hollywood, a small city ten miles east of Los Angeles. In 1910 Hollywood was merged with the city of Los Angeles, and in 1915, Palmer was appointed one of the six judges of the Los Angeles Justice Court, which is now part of the municipal court system. Hollywood Forever Cemetery
Hollywood Forever Cemetery is a full-service cemetery, funeral home, crematory, and cultural events center which regularly hosts community events such as live music and summer movie screenings. It is one of the oldest cemeteries in Los Angeles, California and is located at 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. It was founded in 1899 as Hollywood Cemetery, and, from 1939, was known as Hollywood Memorial Park until 1998 when it was given its current name. Palmer Building
Palmer Building is a historic four-story building at 6360-6366 W. Hollywood Boulevard and 1646 Cosmo Street in Hollywood, California. It is one of a pair of commercial office structures on its intersection, the other being Palmer Building II. History Beginnings Palmer Building was built in 1921 by Edward T. Flaherty for the Palmer family, creators of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and owners of the newspaper ''Hollywood Citizen''. The newspaper moved into the building shortly after the building's completion. In 1940, the Associated Press opened its Los Angeles bureau in this building as well, and the building was also home to the headquarters of Betty Blanc Company and Tailwagger Guide Dog Institute, with Betty Blanc Company also operating a retail store on the ground floor. Buron Fitts
Buron Rogers Fitts (March 22, 1895 – March 29, 1973) was the 29th lieutenant governor of California, from 1927 to 1928, and Los Angeles County district attorney thereafter until 1940. Early life Born in Belcherville, Texas, Fitts received his law degree in 1916 from the University of Southern California and while a student there worked as a clerk for attorney Earl Rogers. Fitts was a severely injured veteran of World War I whose base of political support lay in the American Legion organization of war veterans. He had been shot in the knee in the Battle of Argonne and limped for the rest of his life. Career He was appointed deputy district attorney for Los Angeles County in 1920 during the term of Thomas Lee Woolwine and chief deputy in 1924 under Asa Keyes.
