Haridas (1944 Film)
''Haridas'' is a 1944 Tamil language film directed by Sundar Rao Nadkarni and starring M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, T. R. Rajakumari and N. C. Vasanthakokilam. It holds the record of being the longest-running Tamil film at a single theatre for 784 days. IBN Live included ''Haridas'' in its list of 100 greatest Indian films of all time. The film was initially released in black and white with just one scene in colour, which was manually colored by studio technicians. The film was re-released with full colour in 1946. It was the last film of M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar before his two year imprisonment due to the Lakshmikanthan murder case. Haridas Viharidas Desai
Haridas Viharidas Desai (1840–1895) was Diwan of Junagadh state from 1883 onwards. He was a pious man and a brilliant administrator who in a decade made the most important reforms in every department of the Junagadh state. He built the 12,000 steps up Mt Girnar for the pilgrims ( he collected funds of 3 lacs from public through lottery, he constructed roads that connected Jungadh to Girnar, temples of Narsinh Mehta and Damodar Kund ( all at his cost ), and construction of the railway line joining the capital of Junagadh to Veraval, the principal port and connecting them both to the railway system of India. In 1895 he was appointed by Queen Victoria along with Maharaja Lakshmeshwar Singh to be part of the Royal Opium Commission. The team consisted of 7 British and 2 Indians. Sadhu Haridas
Sadhu Haridas ( fl. 1837) was a hatha yogi Hindu saint of nineteenth-century India, renowned for his reputed power to control his body completely using the power of his mind, employing the energies of kundalini. His most notable feat, carried out in 1837, was to survive burial underground, without food or water, for forty days. This feat was said to have taken place at the court of the Maharajah of the Punjab, Ranjit Singh, at Lahore, India (now in Pakistan). Survival of burial In 1837, Haridas was allegedly buried in the presence of the Maharajah, his whole court, and French and British doctors. Nanabhai Haridas
Justice Nanabhai Haridas LL.B. (1832–1889), was the first Indian Justice of the Bombay High Court during 1883–1889. Career Haridas, son of a government official began his career as a translator in 1852. He joined the law class of Elphinstone Institute in 1855 and passed the examination as munsif. In 1857, he successfully completed the final law examinations and for two years, from 1859 to 1861, the Bombay government engaged his services to translate the Indian civil and criminal Laws into Gujarati. Also in 1857, he was enrolled as a lawyer of the Civil Court. When the Bombay High Court was established, he was admitted as a lawyer on appellate side. He passed the vakeel's examination at Madras in 1863, whereafter he resigned his government job and set up practice in the Bombay High Court. Kalamandalam Venmani Haridas (15 September 1946 – 17 September 2005) was an Indian Kathakali musician noted for his rendition of the Kathakali padams (playback songs) for the characters in the classical Kerala dance-drama.Born in Venmani Mana, a Namboodiri mansion of literary repute in Vellarappilly village east of Aluva off Kochi, Haridas developed interest in Kathakali by watching performances of the classical dance-drama in the neighbouring Akavoor Mana. Haridasa Thakur ( IAST ) (born 1451 or 1450) was a prominent Vaishnava saint known for being instrumental in the initial propagation of the Hare Krishna movement. He is considered to be the most famous convert of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, apart from Rupa Goswami and Sanatana Goswami. Haridas Siddhanta Vagish was an Indian writer and translator of Bengali literature and a Sanskrit scholar. He translated several Indian epics and classics into Bengali language which included Mahabharata, Shakuntala and Meghadūta.
