Hari Kishan Kaul
Rai Bahadur Hari Kishan Kaul (1869 – 25 January 1942''The Indian Review'', 1942, vol. 43: obituary) was an Indian administrator from Punjab who, among other positions, briefly served as the Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 1931 to 1932. Life Hari Kishan Kaul was born to Raja Suraj Kaul in a distinguished Punjabi family of Kashmiri descent. His brothers were Bal Kishan Kaul and Daya Kishan Kaul. He studied at the school of his native city and then specialized in law at the University of Delhi. After qualifying, Kaul practised law in Lahore, where in 1911 he was responsible for the production of the authoritative Census of the Punjab. Kaul was later sent to the Bengal Supreme Court. In 1923 he moved into public administration as High Commissioner in Jalandhar. Punjab was a province of British India. Most of the Punjab region was annexed by the East India Company in 2 April 1849, and declared a province of British Rule, it was one of the last areas of the Indian subcontinent to fall under British control. In 1858, the Punjab, along with the rest of British India, came under the direct rule of the British Crown. It had an area of 358,354.5 km2. Jammu and Kashmir, officially known as the Princely State of Kashmir and Jammu, was a princely state during the Company rule in India from 1757 to 1858 as well as the British Raj in India from 1846 to 1952. The princely state was created after the First Anglo-Sikh War, from the territories that had earlier been in the Sikh Empire. At the time of the partition of India and the political integration of India, Hari Singh, the ruler of the state, delayed making a decision about the future of his state. However, an uprising in the western districts of the state followed by an attack by raiders from the neighbouring Northwest Frontier Province, supported by Pakistan, forced his hand. The Kashmiri Pandits (also known as Kashmiri Brahmins) are a group of Kashmiri Hindus and a part of the larger Saraswat Brahmin community of India. They belong to the Pancha-Gauda, Pancha Gauda Brahmin group from the Kashmir Valley, a mountainous region located within the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir (union territory), Jammu and Kashmir. Hari Singh
Maharaja Sir Hari Singh (September 1895 – 26 April 1961) was the last ruling Maharaja of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir (princely state), Jammu and Kashmir. Hari Singh was the son of Amar Singh and Bhotiali Chib. In 1923, following his uncle's death, Singh became the new Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir. After Indian Independence Act 1947, Indian Independence in 1947, Singh wanted Jammu and Kashmir to remain as an independent kingdom. He was required to accede to the Dominion of India to get the support of Indian troops against an invasion by tribal armed men and the Pakistan Army into his state. Singh remained the titular Maharaja of the state until 1952, when the monarchy was abolished by the Indian government. After spending his final days in Bombay, he died on 26 April 1961.
