Harendra Singh
Harendra Singh is an Indian field hockey coach and former international player. He is a former head coach of India's men's, women's and junior teams. Playing career Hailing from Chhapra, Bihar, Singh started his career as a halfback playing with IFFCO Tokio in Delhi. In 1988, he joined the Mahindra & Mahindra team in Mumbai on the insistence of former India coach J. M. Carvalho. He switched to Air India in 1990 and later became the company's senior manager. Singh made his international debut at the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing, where India won silver. He represented the Indian hockey team in 43 matches before retiring at the age of 26 citing "too much politics in hockey." Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. 2010 Men's Hockey World Cup
The 2010 Men's Hockey World Cup was the 12th edition of Men's Hockey World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for men's national field hockey teams organized by the International Hockey Federation. It was held from 28 February to 13 March 2010 in New Delhi, India. Australia won the tournament after defeating Germany 2–1 in the final, collecting their second World Cup, after the title obtained in 1986. The Netherlands won the third-place match by defeating England 4–3. Background India's hosting of the event was put in doubt when the FIH reviewed the progress of the Indian Hockey Federation's "Promoting Indian Hockey" program and India's preparation for the championship, and warned that "satisfactory progress had not been made in either area". United States Men's National Field Hockey Team
The United States men's national field hockey team represents the United States in the international field hockey competitions. The governing body is the United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA), which is a US Olympic Committee organization. The team won Bronze at the 1932 Summer Olympics, and has had success in the Pan American Games and Pan American Cup. Field hockey is not a major sport at college level in the United States, so the men's team does not have as much experience as most other international teams that have professional players. The sport is largely thought of as a women's game in the United States; field hockey has historically been used as a “Title IX” sport to offset the numerous men who play college football, and as such, colleges have typically only sponsored women's field hockey teams. The 2018 Men's Hockey Champions Trophy was the 37th and the last edition of the Hockey Champions Trophy for men. It was held from 23 June to 1 July 2018 in Breda, Netherlands.
