Hardenburgh is a town located in the western part of Ulster County, New York, United States. Between 1976 and 1983, 236 residents—more than half the town's residences—became ministers of the Universal Life Church (an organization allowing mail-in "ordinations"), as part of a bid to obtain tax exemptions and as a protest against high property taxes. Grant Mills Covered Bridge
The Grant Mills Bridge, officially the Millbrook Bridge, is a wooden covered bridge over Mill Brook in Hardenburgh, New York, United States. It is one of 29 covered bridges in the state. It was built in 1902 by a pair of local builders in the lattice truss design perfected early in the previous century by Ithiel Town. It was taken out of service in 1964 when Mill Brook Road was relocated a short distance to the south, but remains in excellent condition and is open to foot traffic. In 1999, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Coykendall Lodge
Coykendall Lodge is a historic home, now in ruins, located at Hardenburgh in Ulster County, New York. It is located on the shores of Alder Lake in the Balsam Lake Wild Forest, part of the Catskill Forest Preserve. It was built in 1899 and was a large, rambling -story half-timber lodge of balloon frame construction. It rests on a limestone foundation and is representative of the Shingle Style. Balsam Lake Mountain Fire Observation Station
The Balsam Lake Mountain Fire Observation Station is located at the summit (topography), summit of the mountain of that name in the Town of Hardenburgh, New York, Hardenburgh, New York, United States. It comprises a steel frame fire lookout tower, the observer's cabin and outhouse, privy and the jeep road to the complex. Balsam Lake Mountain, the westernmost of the Catskill High Peaks, was the site of the first fire lookout tower in New York in 1887, when a nearby sportsmen's club built it to protect their lands below the mountain. The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development, usually referred to as the Catskill Center, is a not-for-profit organization based in Arkville, New York, United States.
