Anton Harber (October 27, 1958) is a South African journalist. He is executive director of the Campaign for Free Expression, director of the Henry Nxumalo Foundation an adjunct professor of journalism at the University of the Witwatersrand, and the co-editor or author of five books. Early life Anton Harber was born on October 27, 1958 in Durban, South Africa. He went to Carmel College, Durban, and graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand. Career Harber started his career at the Springs Advertiser and worked at the Sunday Post, the Sowetan and Rand Daily Mail newspapers. He was political reporter on the Rand Daily Mail when it was closed in 1985. He was a founding co-editor of the ''Weekly Mail'', later known as the ''Mail & Guardian, 1985-1997.'' Denzil Dean Harber (25 January 1909, Streatham, – 31 August 1966) was an early British Trotskyist leader and later in his life a prominent British ornithologist. Denzil Dean Harber was born at 25 Fairmile Avenue, Streatham on 25 January 1909. His father was a ship's carpenter turned architect, his mother the daughter of a successful south London butcher. During the First World War the family moved to Sussex , where they lived in a succession of houses at Climping, Lewes, and Eastbourne and finally at the Black Mill, Ore near Hastings. From a very early age he developed an interest in many aspects of natural history including reptiles, butterflies and moths, fossils and birds. Suffering from chronic asthma from infancy his formal education was spasmodic. He was however taught how to learn, and how to plan courses of study himself by an inspiring private tutor. John Harber
John Harber (12 November 1889 – 11 August 1962) was an English first-class cricketer. Born in Malvern Wells, Worcestershire, Harber played only once at first-class level, for Worcestershire against Derbyshire at New Road in August 1914. This was Worcestershire's final game before county cricket was suspended owing to World War I; in the match, he took three wickets for 46 runs, including that of Archibald Slater in both innings. When Harber had Slater caught for 75 in the second innings, it was the last wicket to be taken by a Worcestershire bowler in first-class cricket until a friendly match against Gloucestershire in 1919 - and as the county did not rejoin the County Championship until 1920, in that competition it was the last for nearly six years.
