Haqeeqi Azadi Movement
The Haqeeqi Azadi Movement (Urdu: حقیقی آزادی) is a political movement started by Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, after he was sacked from his office on 9 April 2022. The opposition joined hands to submit a no-confidence motion against the former prime minister in March 2022, and they were deemed successful by managing to secure 172 votes, enough to oust a sitting prime minister. The motion from the surface looked like a normal democratic exercise, however it is widely believed that the military establishment, backed by the influence of the United States government, had a prominent role in the ousting of Imran Khan, evident by the report of '' The Intercept'' in August 2023 which published a leaked copy of the cable, which it claimed to have received from a disgruntled member of Pakistan's military. Imran Khan
Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi ( ur}; born 5 October 1952) is a Pakistani politician and former Cricket captain who served as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan from August 2018 to until April 2022, when he was ousted through a no-confidence in the National Assembly. He is the founder and chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Born to a Niazi Pashtun family in Lahore, Khan graduated from Keble College, University of Oxford, England, in 1975. No-confidence Motion Against Imran Khan
In April 2022, a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan led to his removal as the prime minister of Pakistan. Based largely on the Westminster system of legislature, the prime minister commands confidence of the majority of the lower house of Parliament, the National Assembly of Pakistan, under clause (2A) of Article 91 of the Constitution. Numerous opposition parties joined forces to file the motion of no confidence against Imran Khan in the National Assembly. It ultimately led to the removal of Khan from office as a majority passed the motion in the Lower House. Lettergate is an American-Pakistani political affair set off by a conversation at a farewell lunch for the then-Pakistani ambassador to the United States Asad Majeed Khan, which took place on 7 March 2022 at Khan's official residence, also known as Pakistan House. A diplomatic telegram (Cypher No. I-0678) sent by Ambassador Khan to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was based on the notes taken by the note-taker, who was from the embassy of Pakistan based in Washington, D.C. The lunch was attended by US officials including then US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and Deputy Assistant Secretary Lesslie Viguerie. 2022 Azadi March I
The 2022 Azadi March I () was a protest march initiated by the ousted former Pakistani prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party chairman Imran Khan against the government of his successor, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. On 24 May 2022, Khan announced a long march towards Islamabad starting on 25 May 2022. Khan lead the march from Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where his provincial government helped him. Senior PTI members lead the march from Lahore, the capital of Punjab. Imran Khan asked people to reach the Srinagar Highway in Islamabad to support his demands for early elections. His workers would stay in Islamabad as required, for their only demand would be to give a date for clean and transparent general elections and to dissolve assemblies. 2022 Azadi March II
The 2022 Azadi March II () was a protest march led by Imran Khan, former prime minister of Pakistan, from Lahore to Islamabad against the Shehbaz Sharif ministry. It succeeded 2022 Azadi March I, which took place in May. There was an attempted assassination of Imran Khan during the early days of the march. Khan decided to push for the dissolution of the provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to force early elections instead of continuing the march.
