Gemma Hayes (born 11 August 1977) is an Irish musician, singer-songwriter and composer. Primarily known as a vocalist and guitarist, she is also proficient with a wide range of instruments, including the piano and the harmonica. She is also a member of The Cake Sale and Printer Clips. Early life Hayes grew up in Ballyporeen, Tipperary with her parents and seven other siblings. She was surrounded by music from an early age heavily influenced by her siblings and her father who was a keyboardist in a local band. Hayes would later move to County Limerick to attend boarding school. By this time, Hayes was proficient at piano and found that the music used to counter the boredom of living in a small village. She would later move to Dublin City to attend UCD to study sociology, psychology and history. Jon Joseph Waronker (born May 20, 1969) is an American drummer and music producer. He is best known as a regular drummer of both Beck and R.E.M., and as member of the experimental rock bands Atoms for Peace and Ultraísta. Background Waronker was born in Los Angeles, the son of producer Lenny Waronker and actress and musician Donna Loren. He has two sisters (one being musician Anna Waronker) and two half-sisters. ''The Roads Don't Love You '' is the second album by Irish singer-songwriter Gemma Hayes, released in the Republic of Ireland on 28 October 2005, 31 October 2005 in the United Kingdom, and 15 November 2005 in North America. In 2006, Gemma received a nomination for Best Irish Female at the 2006 Ireland Music Awards where she also performed live and picked up the award. The title is taken from a line in the Magnetic Fields song "Long Vermont Roads". During the tour supporting the release of ''The Roads Don't Love You'' in America, a short EP titled ''Sampler'' was released. The album was finally made available in the US as a download through iTunes in July 2014. Background and recording The recording of this album was heavily influenced by Hayes' move to Los Angeles.
