Happy Days (North End Song)
"Happy Days" is a 1981 disco song by North End, produced and written by Arthur Baker, Russell Presto, Tony Carbone. The song was originally developed in Boston where Baker was living in 1979 with vocalist Michelle Wallace. Baker would later move to New York where he met with DJ Tee Scott initially to make an instrumental version of the song. Scott would take the song and would remix it would guitar and overdubs. The song was released by Emergency Records in 1981 and ended up peaking at 9th place on Billboard's Disco Top 80. Background and production Baker said that "Happy Days" was made in 1979 in Boston. Arthur Baker had previously met several musicians through his work on the album he worked on titled ''TJM'' which he was uncredited on. North End was an American boogie (genre), boogie and Electronic dance music, club music-influenced garage house music group, consisted of Arthur Baker (musician), Arthur Baker, Russell Presto and Tony Carbone. North End debuted in 1979 with an uptempo disco track titled "Kind of Life (Kind of Love)" which was released by West End Records. Two years later, "Happy Days" was released on Emergency Records and peaked at number 9 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Songs, Club Play Singles chart. Madonna (entertainer), Madonna's "Holiday (Madonna song), Holiday" was loosely based on "Happy Days". Although the band didn't technically exist in 1982, all their members continued to arrange and produce Michelle Wallace's material, including "Jazzy Rhythm" and "It's Right", both written by Baker, Presto and Carbone. Paradise Garage, also known as "the Garage" or the "Gay-rage", was a New York City discotheque notable in the history of dance and pop music, as well as LGBT and nightclub cultures. The club was founded by sole proprietor Michael Brody, and occupied a building formerly located at 84 King Street in the SoHo neighborhood. It operated from 1977 to 1987 and featured notable resident DJ Larry Levan. The Garage is credited with influencing the development of modern nightclubs, and is cited as a direct inspiration for London's Ministry of Sound. Unlike other venues of its time, Paradise Garage promoted dancing rather than verbal interaction, and it was the first to place the DJ at the center of attention. George Benson
George Washington Benson (born March 22, 1943) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He began his professional career at the age of 19 as a jazz guitarist. A former child prodigy, Benson first came to prominence in the 1960s, playing soul jazz with Jack McDuff and others. Larry Levan (; born Lawrence Philpot, July 20, 1954 – November 8, 1992) was an American DJ best known for his decade-long residency at the New York City night club Paradise Garage, which has been described as the prototype of the modern dance club. He developed a cult following who referred to his sets as "Saturday Mass". Influential post-disco DJ François Kevorkian credits Levan with introducing the dub aesthetic into dance music. Minimoog
The Minimoog is an analog synthesizer first manufactured by Moog Music between 1970 and 1981. Designed as a more affordable, portable version of the modular Moog synthesizer, it was the first synthesizer sold in retail stores. It was first popular with progressive rock and jazz musicians and found wide use in disco, pop, rock and electronic music. Production of the Minimoog stopped in the early 1980s after the sale of Moog Music. In 2002, founder Robert Moog regained the rights to the Moog brand, bought the company, and released an updated version of the Minimoog, the Minimoog Voyager.
