Hapoel Merhavim ( he, הפועל מרחבים) is an Israeli football club based in Merhavim Regional Council. The club is currently in Liga Bet South B division. History The club was founded in 1957, and reached Liga Bet, the third tier of Israeli football at the time in the 1959–60 season, which was the first season Liga Bet consisted four regional divisions. The club relegated to Liga Gimel after bottom finish in Liga Bet South B division in the 1964–65 season. The club made a return to Liga Bet in the 1969–70 season, and after another relegation in the 1970–71 season, the club made an immediate return to Liga Bet, and started their best period to date, after fourth-place finish in the 1972–73 season, and third-place finish in the 1974–75 season, six points short from promotion to the second tier of Israeli football. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the Mandate for Palestine, British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi World Union, Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of Israel Football Association, football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. Therefore, Hapoel became a member of Socialist Workers' Sport International, SASI in 1927 and later was a member of CSIT. Liga Artzit
Liga Artzit ( he, ליגה ארצית, lit. ''Country League'') is the defunct third division of Israeli Football League, beneath its highest division Premier League and the second division Liga Leumit. Before being cancelled in 2009, it was run by the Israel Football Association. It was replaced by Liga Alef. Structure There were 12 teams in Liga Artzit. Each team played 33 matches; the first 22 matches were played on a home and away basis, with the last 11 fixtures based on league positions after 22 games. Like the majority of leagues in the world, three points were awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. The 2013–14 Liga Gimel season saw 113 clubs competing in 8 regional divisions for promotion to Liga Bet. Hapoel Ironi Safed (Upper Galilee), Maccabi Ironi Yafa (Lower Galilee), F.C. al-Nahda Nazareth (Jezreel), F.C. Baqa (Samaria), Hapoel Kafr Qasim Shouaa (Sharon), F.C. Roei Heshbon Tel Aviv (Tel Aviv), F.C. Beitar Yavne (Central) and Hapoel Merhavim (South) all won their respective divisions and were promoted to Liga Bet. During the summer, as several vacancies were created in Liga Bet, runners-up Hapoel Ironi Bnei I'billin (Lower Galilee), Hapoel Sandala Gilboa (Jezreel), F.C. Pardes Hanna-Karkur (Samaria), F.C. 2012–13 Liga Bet
The 2012–13 Liga Bet season saw Beitar Nahariya (champions of the North A division), Hapoel Beit She'an/Mesilot (champions of the North B division), Hapoel Mahane Yehuda (champions of the South A division) and Maccabi Be'er Ya'akov (champions of the South B division) win the title and promotion to Liga Alef. The clubs ranked 2nd to 5th in each division entered a promotion play-off, at the end of which, in the North section Hapoel Iksal lost against Maccabi Kafr Kanna from Liga Alef North and remained in Liga Bet, while, in the South section, F.C. Kafr Qasim won against Hapoel Arad from Liga Alef South and was promoted to Liga Alef. At the bottom, F.C.
