Hapoel Jerusalem F.C.
Hapoel Jerusalem Football Club ( he, מועדון כדורגל הפועל ירושלים, ''Mo'adon Kaduregel Hapoel Yerushalayim'') is an Israeli football club from Jerusalem, playing in the Israeli Premier League. The team was founded in 1926. The team's record achievement is winning the State Cup and third place in the First League in 1973. As a protest against the conduct of the club's owners since the 1990s, the Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem football club was established in 2007, the first football club in Israel owned by its fans. The club was named after Katamon Stadium, which was formerly used by Hapoel Jerusalem. The club existed in parallel with Hapoel Jerusalem for 12 years. In 2019, Hapoel Jerusalem was disbanded and in August 2020, Hapoel Katamon acquired the rights to the name Hapoel Jerusalem and officially became Hapoel Jerusalem. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the Mandate for Palestine, British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi World Union, Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of Israel Football Association, football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. Therefore, Hapoel became a member of Socialist Workers' Sport International, SASI in 1927 and later was a member of CSIT. Liga Meuhedet ( he, ליגה מיוחדת, lit. ''Special League'') was a temporary second division of Israeli football in the 1949–50 season, the first after Israeli independence. It consisted of five regional division; North, Samaria, Sharon, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and South. There was no promotion or relegation. There was no league football during the 1950–51 season, and when it resumed in 1951–52, Liga Bet returned as the second tier with the same composition as the aborted 1947–48 Liga Bet, with the top teams from Samaria, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem-South divisions replacing inactive teams. The 1997–98 Israel State Cup ( he, גביע המדינה, ''Gvia HaMedina'') was the 59th season of Israel's nationwide football cup competition and the 44th after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. The competition was won by Maccabi Haifa who had beaten Hapoel Jerusalem 2–0 in the final. By winning, Maccabi Haifa qualified to the 1998–99 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, entering in the qualifying round. 1999–2000 Israeli Premier League
The 1999–2000 Israeli Premier League season was the first in its history. The league had been formed to replace the former top division, Liga Leumit, which became the country's second tier. Before the season started Ironi Ashdod and Liga Alef side Hapoel Ashdod were merged into F.C. Ashdod. The season took place from the first match on 14 August 1999 to the final match on 27 May 2000. Hapoel Tel Aviv won the title, teams relegated were Hapoel Kfar Saba, Maccabi Herzliya and Hapoel Jerusalem.
