Hansa (film)
Hansa is a 2012 independent feature film in Hindi written, directed and produced by Manav Kaul. The directorial debut film is set in an unnamed Himalayan village where the protagonists Hansa and his elder sister Cheeku search for their missing father. Upon its release the film received critical acclaim. It was made at a low cost of 700,00 Indian rupees (approximately USD 12,739, as of 2012, the time of making the film). The film was shot in a village in Uttarakhand, India. During an interview aired on The Lallantop, an Indian online news channel, director Manav Kaul mentioned that the film is available for free viewing on YouTube. Manav Kaul
Manav Kaul (born 19 December 1976) is an Indian theatre director, playwright, author, actor and filmmaker. He was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the films '' Tumhari Sulu'' (2017) and '' Saina'' (2021). Early life Kaul was born on 19 December 1976 in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, India, into a Kashmiri Pandit family. His family later moved to Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh, where he was raised. He was a competitive swimmer in his late teenage years and participated in state and national levels championships. He has won 14 national medals in swimming. Career Kaul started a theatre group named Aranya in 2004. His influences include Charles Bukowski, Vinod Kumar Shukla, Franz Kafka and Nirmal Verma, to whom he paid homage in his 2010 play ''Red Sparrow''. Osian's-Cinefan is one of Asia's leading film-festival devoted to Asian and Arab cinema, and is part of ''Osian's Film House Division''. The festival celebrated its 10th anniversary in July 2008. After a two-year break, the 12th staging of the festival took place in July 2012. History Cinefan began in 1999 as an outgrowth of ''Cinemaya'', a quarterly Asian cinema magazine published in New Delhi since 1988.
