Hans Von Volkmann
Hans Richard von Volkmann (19 May 1860, Halle - 29 April 1927, Halle) was a German illustrator and landscape painter, associated with the Düsseldorfer Malerschule. Biography His father, Richard von Volkmann, was a well known surgeon and occasional author. By the age of fourteen, he was already roaming the areas around Halle with a pencil and paint box. Many of his early watercolors are still in the possession of the Halle state archives. After completing his primary education, he enrolled at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he studied from 1880 to 1888. His primary instructors there were Hugo Crola, Heinrich Lauenstein, Johann Peter Theodor Janssen and Eduard von Gebhardt. During this time, he became a member of the progressive artists' association, Malkasten. From 1888 to 1892, he was in Karlsruhe, as master student of the landscape painter, Gustav Schönleber, who would be his primary influence. Deutscher Künstlerbund
The Deutscher Kuenstlerbund (Association of German Artists) was founded in 1903 the initiative of Count Harry Kessler, promoter of arts and artists, Alfred Lichtwark, director of the Hamburg Art Gallery and the famous painters Lovis Corinth, Max Klinger and Max Liebermann among others. Thus a supra-regional association which surpassed the existing secessions came into existence for the first time. Its founders were determined to get rid of the restrictions imposed by the national cultural authorities. Their aim was to ensure the freedom of art, to offer a public forum for different artistic trends and to support young artists. These intentions were taken into account at annual exhibitions which took place in various German cities and sometimes in foreign countries. Hans Nachod (1883–1965) was an Austrian operatic tenor for whom his cousin Arnold Schoenberg Arnold Schoenberg or Schönberg (, ; ; 13 September 187413 July 1951) was an Austrian-American composer, music theorist, teacher, writer, and painter. Nachod was born in Vienna to a family of Jewish cantors. He made his stage debut at the Volksoper in 1907 and remained a member of the ensemble to 1910. He worked at theatres in Germany and in Prague. In 1939, Nachod escaped the Nazi Regime to London. His plans to move to the U.S. failed because of visa problems. He was interned for five months on the Isla of Man in 1940. He was a voice teacher in London until around 1950. Carl Johannes Louis Langhein (29 February 1872, Hamburg – 26 June 1941, Hadamar) was German painter and graphic artist. Life and work He was born to Carl Jacob Martin Langhein (1846–1914), an upholsterer and decorator, and his wife, Louise Catharina Maria née Westphal (1849–1873). In 1880, his father remarried and emigrated to the United States. He stayed behind and began serving an apprenticeship in lithography with the printer, Gustav W. Seitz (born 1826). Later, he also took drawing courses at a trade school. After leaving Seitz, he worked at the firm of Hans Kohler & Co, in Allgäu. From 1891 to 1892, he was able to study at the Academy of Arts, Berlin, with the painter, . He continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Karlsruhe, with Carlos Grethe and Robert Poetzelberger. In 1895, he was able to obtain a position as an assistant to Leopold von Kalckreuth. Carl Ludwig Noah Bantzer (6 August 1857, Schwalmstadt, Ziegenhain – 19 December 1941, Marburg) was a painter, professor and art critic; associated with the . Biography He was born to Heinrich Bantzer (1809–1863), a veterinarian. After his father's death, his mother moved the family to Marburg, where he attended the prestigious Gymnasium Philippinum. Later, he studied at the Academy of Arts, Berlin. In 1884 and 1885 he was in Schwalm (region), Schwalm, where he worked with the painter , from Dresden.
