Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya is a college in Jalandhar, Punjab. The college was founded by Mahatma Hansraj in 1927 in Lahore, Pakistan. After the partition of Indian and Pakistan the school moved to Jalandhar in 1948. The first class consisted of about 80 students compared to 4,650 students in the current class. Mahatma Hansraj
Lala Hansraj (19 April 1864 – 14 November 1938) also known as Mahatama Hansraj, was an Indian educationist and a follower of Arya Samaj movement founder, Swami Dayanand. He founded, with Gurudatta Vidhyarthi, the Dayanand Anglo-Vedic Schools System (D.A.V.) in Lahore on 1 June 1886, where the first D.A.V. school was set up in memory of Dayanand who had died three years earlier. He was also a compatriot of freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai. Hansraj served as the principal of D.A.V. College for 25 years, and committed the rest of his life in social service. Sarla Grewal
Sarla Grewal (4 October 1927 – 29 January 2002) was the second female Indian Administrative Service officer in India, when she joined IAS in 1952. She was the Governor of Madhya Pradesh (1989–1990). She was the principal secretary for Rajiv Gandhi. In addition to the above-mentioned posts, she held Shimla's first deputy commissioner, Secretary to Prime Minister at WHO and UNICEF. Career Grewal did her bachelor's from Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya. After graduating, she joined IAS in 1952. Then in 1956, she was the Deputy Commissioner and was the first woman in India to be appointed to the post nationwide. She was awarded the British Council Scholarship at LSE on social services in developing countries, with special emphasis on health, education and society welfare schemes. Sunita Rani ( hi, सुनीता रानी; born 4 December 1979) is an Indian athlete from Punjab who won a gold medal in the 1,500 m race and a bronze in the 5,000 m during the 2002 Asian Games.
