Hans Peder Steensby
Hans Peder Steensby (25 March 1875, Steensby, Skamby Sogn, Funen Island – 20 October 1920, aboard ship Frederik VIII) was an ethnographer, geographer and professor at the University of Copenhagen.H. His original name was Hans Peder Jensen, but in 1902 he changed his name to Steensby, the name of the parish where he was born. After completing his education in 1900 he moved to Copenhagen and became a teacher. In 1908 he travelled to Algeria and Tunisia, where he studied the culture of the nomads. In 1909 he lived among the Greenlandic Inuit of the Cape York area. In 1911 he became professor of Geography at the Copenhagen University. Steensby Inlet
Steensby Inlet is a waterway in Nunavut's Qikiqtaaluk Region. It extends northerly from Foxe Basin into central Baffin Island. There are several unnamed islands within the inlet, and Koch Island lies outside of it. The Steensby Inlet Ice Stream arose after the deglaciation of Foxe Basin. Gudmund Hatt
Professor Aage Gudmund Hatt (1 October 1884 – 27 January 1960) was a Danish archaeologist and cultural geographer. He was a professor of cultural geography at the University of Copenhagen from 1929 through 1947. Also an ethnologist, he was the first person to systematically inventory cultural similarities and differences amongst northern peoples. Early years Hatt was born in Vildbjerg - before 2007 in Trehøje Municipality, from 2007 in Herning Municipality - Denmark, and studied there through 1904. His father was the local teacher. In 1905, he went to the United States and lived among the Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma for a year, which led him to study ethnography at Harvard University from 1906 to 1907. Returned to Denmark, he lectured on Native Americans in the United States and their former way of living, and began his studies under Hans Peder Steensby, ethnographer and professor of geography at the University of Copenhagen. Steensby Glacier
Steensby Glacier ( da, Steensby Gletscher) is a major glacier in northern Greenland. This glacier was first mapped in 1917 during Knud Rasmussen's 1916–1918 Second Thule Expedition to north Greenland and was named after Danish ethnologist Hans Peder Steensby. Geography The Steensby Glacier originates in the Greenland Ice Sheet. It is roughly north–south oriented and has its terminus between Nyeboe Land and Warming Land at the head of the Saint George Fjord.
