Hans Hartleb (director)
Hans Hugo Christian Hartleb (3 May 1910 – ?) was a German opera director who worked internationally, focused on contemporary opera. Life Born in Kassel, Hartleb first engaged in theatre studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and received his doctorate there in 1936. In 1935 he became head director at the Volksoper in Berlin. From 1947 to 1956 he worked in a similar position at the Grillo-Theater in Essen, from 1956 to 1961 at the Oper Frankfurt and from 1961 to 1967 at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. He then worked as a freelance director. Hartleb's special domain was modern opera as well as the Italian repertoire. He was the director of the national premieres of Berg's Lulu in Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden. In 1967, he directed the world premiere of '' Eli'' by Walter Steffens at the Opernhaus Dortmund. Crossbreed is an American industrial metal band from Clearwater, Florida, United States, formed in 1996. They were signed with Artemis Records before being dropped from the label in 2003. The band released two EPs and three full-length albums before disbanding in 2010. History Early years Crossbreed was formed in 1996 as a four-man band consisting of James Rietz, Chris Nemzek, Charlie Parker & Travis Simpkins. Opernhaus Dortmund
Opernhaus Dortmund is the opera house of Dortmund, Germany, operated by the Theater Dortmund organisation. A new opera house opened in 1966, replacing an earlier facility which opened in 1904 and was destroyed during World War I. It was built on the former site of the Old Synagogue, which was demolished by the Nazi local government in the 1930s. Architects and Edgar Tritthart designed the modernist structure. The design separates the functions of the stage and technical areas in the Bühnenhaus (stage house), which is dominated by straight lines, from the auditorium under a concrete shell roof. Opening season The new house opened on 3 March 1966, to serve as a venue for operas, ballets, concerts, and for plays which require a large stage. Horst Seeger (6 November 1926 – 2 January 1999), pseudonyme ''Horst Schell'', was a German musicologist, music critic, dramaturg, librettist and opera director. Leben Born in Erkner, Seeger studied musicology at the Humboldt University of Berlin with Walter Vetter, Ernst Hermann Meyer and Hans-Heinz Dräger and worked as a music journalist and critic from 1954. From 1959 to 1960 he was editor-in-chief of the journal ''Musik und Gesellschaft''. From 1960-1973 he was chief dramaturge at the Komische Oper Berlin. Maurice of Hesse-Kassel (german: Moritz; 25 May 1572 – 15 March 1632), also called Maurice the Learned or Moritz, was the Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel (or Hesse-Cassel) in the Holy Roman Empire from 1592 to 1627. Life Maurice was born in Kassel as the son of William IV, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel, and of his wife Sabine of Württemberg. Although Maurice had been raised in the Lutheran faith, he converted to Calvinism in 1605. On the principle ''Cuius regio eius religio'', Maurice's subjects were also required to convert to Calvinism. Maurice's conversion was controversial since the Peace of Augsburg had only settled religious matters betweens Roman Catholics and Lutherans and had not considered Calvinists. Maurice tried to introduce Calvinism to the lands which he had inherited from the extinct Hesse-Marburg branch of his family. Walter Steffens (born 31 October 1934) is a German composer. He is noted for the diversity of his creative works, but has specialised in opera, such as ''Eli'', as well as music inspired by paintings. Life The son of a bridge construction engineer, Steffens was born in Aachen-Burtscheid and grew up in Dortmund. His road to music was a bumpy one, especially since his father could not imagine a career in the fine arts as being a respectable way to earn a living. During the Second World War the Ruhrgebiet was being increasingly bombed, and at the age of eight, young Walter was sent, within the Kinderlandverschickung programme — the evacuation of children from war zones to the countryside — to the village of Wollenberg in Baden-Württemberg, and was thus separated from his parents and sister. ''Eli'', Op. 7, is an opera in three acts with music by Walter Steffens to a libretto based on a play by Nelly Sachs. The world premiere was in 1967 at the Opernhaus Dortmund. History ''Eli'' was a commission from the city of Dortmund as the first world premiere to be performed at the new Opernhaus Dortmund which was inaugurated in 1966. The composer wrote the libretto for the opera in three acts (12 scenes) based on a 1943 mystery play by Nelly Sachs. The city of Dortmund awards a literature prize in her name, the Nelly Sachs Prize. Her play was first entitled ''Eli: Ein Legendenspiel vom Leiden Israels'' (Eli: A mystery play of the sufferings of Israel), later changed to ''Eli: Ein Mysterienspiel...''
